Abbotsford Heat News Release

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - Jon Rheault scored at 1:16 of overtime to lift the Abbotsford Heat to a 4-3 overtime victory over the Rochester Americans in the lone AHL game on Monday night.

The Heat's John Armstrong would open the scoring in the first with his 3rd goal of the season picking up a stray pass behind the net and jamming it in past Rochester's Jacob Markstrom. Abbotsford's second marker would come off of a 2 on 1 shorthanded opportunity as former Vancouver Giant Lance Bouma would deliver a tape to tape pass to Gaelan Patterson who made no mistake, blasting it off the far post and in. For Patterson, it was his first AHL goal and gave the Heat a 2-0 lead after one period of play.

In a relatively quiet Second period the Abbotsford Heat would continue their strong team defensive efforts from their recent road stint. Strong defensive play combined with some key saves from Heat goaltender Leland Irving would limit Rochester's scoring to one goal despite a few quality chances near the end of the period. The lone marker would come from Rochester's Michael Duco who would just tip a pass from Michael Repik through the legs of Irving.

After the Americans tied the score early in the third period, courtesy of a goal from Burnaby's Kendall McArdle, the Heat would jump back into a 3-2 lead courtesy of Gaelan Patterson netting his second goal of the night. Patterson would rush up ice and beat a charging Jacob Markstrom to the puck, tapping it into the open cage. Rochester though would tie it up late in the third as Evgeni Dadanov would make a nice move inside before putting it past Irving and sending the game into overtime with just 1:17 left on the clock.

Abbotsford would come out determined in the overtime frame, and Jon Rheault would seal the deal. Rheault would come in on a 2 on 1 and fire it past Jacob Markstrom for the Heat's first home victory of the season.

The Heat will face Rochester next for a Tuesday night match up. Game time on Tuesday is 7 PM and can be heard on Country 107.1.
