
Marlies End Homestand on a High Note with a 6-1 Win over Hamilton

The Marlies finished off their 10 game homestand with a record of 7- 2-1-0. They look to continue their winning ways when they travel to Hamilton this Wednesday.
What You Need To Know About The Toronto Marlies...
- The Marlies are currently first in the North Division and second in the Western Conference with a record of 31-19-4-2 for 68 points.
- Toronto acquired defenceman Mark Fraser from the Syracuse Crunch in exchange for Dale Mitchell. Fraser, 25, has skated in 98 career NHL games with the New Jersey Devils.
- Carter Ashton was traded to Toronto in exchange for Keith Aulie. Ashton was the 29th overall pick in the 2009 Entry Draft and is currently 12th in AHL rookie scoring with 35 points (19 goals, 16 assists).
- Mike Zigomanis ranks eighth (tie) in the AHL in assists (34) and power play assists (17). He is also 10th (tie) in the AHL in points.
- Ryan Hamilton is eighth (tie) in the AHL in goals (21). The Marlies captain ranks second on the Marlies all-time list with 60 career goals with the club.
- Jerry D'Amigo and Joe Colborne are tied for the team lead with four game winning goals this season.
- The Marlies penalty killing unit ranks first overall in the AHL with an 87.7% success rate.
- The Marlies home power play ranks 14th in the AHL with a 17.5% success rate.
-The Marlies game on Saturday, March 3rd is Canadian Forces Appreciation Day. The Marlies will wear commemorative camouflage jerseys in honour of the Canadian Forces. The first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive a Toronto Marlies camo hat.
Last Week:
The Marlies posted a record of 1-1-0-0 over their two games last week.
Toronto skated to a 2-1 loss against the Grand Rapids Griffins on Saturday. Nazem Kadri scored the lone Marlies goal early in the first period.
Grand Rapids tied the game with eight seconds left in the first period. A Grand Rapids goal midway through the third held up to be the game winner. Toronto appeared to score late in the third, but the goal was called back due to a high stick. Ben Scrivens made 37 saves on 39 shots.
The Marlies scored six times to drop the Hamilton Bulldogs 6-1 on Sunday.
Toronto netted three goals in the first, two in the second and one in the third. Nicolas Deschamps had a career night registering five points (two goals, three assists) and was named the game's first star. Philippe Dupuis finished with four points (one goal, three assists). Greg Scott, Juraj Mikus and Simon Gysbers were the other Marlie goal scorers.
UPCOMING OPPONENTS
The Marlies take to the road on Wednesday for only the second time this month. They travel to Copps Coliseum to take on their QEW rivals the Hamilton Bulldogs. This will be the ninth time these two clubs have faced off against each other this season.
The Marlies have evened out the season series to a record of 4-4-0- 0. Toronto has won the last two contests outscoring the Bulldogs 11-2.
This weekend the Marlies will play a home and home series against the Rochester Americans.
The first meeting will be in Toronto on Saturday. Puck drop is at 5:00pm. The Marlies will then travel to Rochester on Sunday for a 6:05 pm start. The Marlies won the last meeting 4-3 on February 8th. Rochester sits second in the North division with a record of 26- 21-6-3. Rookie Phil Varone leads all Rochester skaters and is ninth in rookie scoring with 37 points, (eight goals, 29 assists).
Reading Report: The Reading Royals rank third in the Atlantic Division with a 26-24-3-4 record. In 25 games, Kenny Ryan has tallied 17 points (nine goals, eight assists). Matt Caruana has registered 15 points (five goals, 10 assists) in 24 games with the Royals.
