BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators defeated the league leading St. John's IceCaps 5-1 in a rare Tuesday evening tilt at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

Goaltender Ben Bishop, acquired from the St. Louis Blues yesterday by the parent club Ottawa Senators, made 41 saves in his B-Sens' debut tonight to help cool the IceCaps while forward Mike Hoffman tallied a pair of goals in the match, including the game winner.

Hoffman opened the scoring in the game as he ripped a shot into the top corner of the net over the gloved hand of IceCaps netminder Eddie Pasquale just 36 seconds in.

Hoffman scored his second of the night and team-leading eighth power play tally of the season at 14:40 of the second period set up by Corey Locke and Rob Klinkhammer.

Derek Grant, Locke, and Pat Cannone rounded out the scoresheet for the B-Sens with third period goals. David Dziurzynski and Locke also put forth multi-point efforts, each earning credit for a pair of assists.

The lone strike for the IceCaps came just past the midway point of period one as Kenndal McArdle snapped a shot in high on Bishop from the left wing face-off dot.

Binghamton ended the night 2-for-4 with the man advantage and went a perfect 7-for-7 on the penalty kill.

The B-Sens return to action Friday as they travel to Syracuse to take on the Crunch at 7:30 p.m. Fans can tune into the action live on "Binghamton's Classic Hits" BIG 107.5 (WBBI-FM) beginning 30 minutes before game time as Grady Whittenburg, the voice of the B-Sens, hosts the Countdown to Faceoff.
