New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Jake Marisnick had his best day in a Fisher Cats uniform on Monday night, picking up four hits and his first Double-A home run against the New Britain Rock Cats. His solo home run in the first game of a doubleheader extended the game to extra-innings before the Rock Cats (53-42) won it on their own home run, 8-5. New Britain then won game two, 4-0, to complete the doubleheader sweep.
Marisnick's night began with the Fisher Cats trailing 3-1 in the first game. He singled to left field to drive home a run and spark a three-run inning that put New Hampshire on top, 4-3.
The Rock Cats rallied with runs in the third and fifth to go back on top, 5-4. That's when Marisnick, leading off the seventh, belted his first home run to deep left field to tie game and send it to extra-innings.
New Britain pulled out game one against new Fisher Cat Danny Barnes (L; 0-1) in the bottom of the ninth. Barnes, in his Double-A debut, had pitched a scoreless eighth before retiring the first two men of the ninth. Before he could end the inning, a single and a walk led to a walk-off homer by Oswaldo Arcia in the 8-5 loss.
In the nightcap, Marisnick singled in the first and third innings, but was stranded as New Britain starter Steve Hirschfeld (W; 6-4) was able to work out of trouble. He stranded Ryan Goins at third in the first inning before leaving runners at first and second in the second.
In the third, Marisnick was stranded at second base before Hirschfeld began to dominate. He retired 13 in a row before Kenen Bailli singled with two outs in the seventh. Hirschfeld (W; 6-4) retired Brian Bocock for the game's final out to complete the shutout.
Chris Jakubauskas (L; 0-2) took the loss for the Fisher Cats (37-59), tossing four innings and allowing three runs (two earned) in his first start in the Blue Jays organization. Steve Marek gave up a run in the fifth before Trystan Magnuson pitched a scoreless sixth in relief.
Marisnick finished the doubleheader with four hits in eight at-bats with two RBI. Mike McDade was 2-3 with a double and two RBI in the first game while Mark Sobolewski delivered a pair of doubles in the losses.
The series continues with a single game on Tuesday night as RHP John Stilson (2-2, 3.33) takes on LHP Aaron Thompson (3-4, 5.56). First pitch is at 7:05 PM. Radio coverage begins at 6:35 PM with Tom Gauthier on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and www.nhfishercats.com.
The Fisher Cats return on for a four-game series with the Sea Dogs on Thursday, July 19 at 7:05 PM. The series features three nights of Atlas Fireworks and a Glow-in-the-Dark Baseball Giveaway on Sunday, July 22. For tickets and the full list of promotions, visit www.nhfishercats.com.
