NYSEG Stadium - Binghamton, NY - 6:35 PM
LAST GAME: The B-Mets set a season-high in runs scored and Gonzalez Germenmatched a career-high by throwing eight innings in a 13-3 victory over the Erie SeaWolves yesterday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. The win was Binghamton's fourth consecutive and eighth in their last ten games. The B-Mets put nine runs on the board in the first two innings and finished one shy of a season-high with 17 hits. Seven of their nine starters collected multiple hits, led by Allan Dykstra's 4-for-4 performance. Gonzalez Germenallowed two runs in the first two innings, but retired 18 straight SeaWolves before allowing a home run in the eighth. The righty allowed three runs on five hits to earn his seventh win. Erie starter Kelvin De La Cruz recorded just two outs while allowing six runs on six hits in the losing effort.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: LHP Darin Gorski (5-4, 3.89) makes his 16th start of the season and second against the Trenton Thunder. The Pennsylvania native has taken the no-decision in his last three starts. Gorski was eligible for the win in his last start against the Altoona Curve on July 9, but Adrian Rosario allowed two runs in the ninth inning to blow the save. Gorski allowed one run on five hits and struck out two. The lefty's best start of the season came against the Trenton Thunder on June 9. He tossed a career-high eight shutout innings and never allowed a runner to reach third base.
RHP Mikey O'Brien (4-2, 3.88) makes his 11th start of the year for Trenton and first against the B-Mets. O'Brien was activated from the disabled list prior to the game after spending 11 days on the shelf with an ingrown toenail. He last pitched against the New Britain Rock Cats on July 4, allowing one run on three hits over six innings in a no-decision. The Virginia native started the season with the Tampa Yankees (High-A), going 4-1 with a 2.92 ERA in seven games (six starts) before getting promoted on May 18. Selected in the 9th round of the 2008 draft out of Hidden Valley HS (VA), O'Brien is in his fifth pro season.
LIGHTING UP THE SCOREBOARD: The B-Mets set a season-high with 13 runs scored and finished one shy of a season-high in hits with 17. They scored six runs in the first inning off Kelvin De La Cruz, their biggest first inning of the year. Binghamton also matched a season-high with seven extra-base hits yesterday (four doubles, two triples, one home run). It was the second time in the series against Erie that the B-Mets collected 16 hits or more.
MARTIN MASHING: B-Mets right fielder Dustin Martin matched a franchise record with two triples yesterday. He collected a two-run three-bagger in both the first and second innings. He is the first B-Met to hit two triples in one game since Juan Lagares performed the feat on August 16, 2011 against the New Britain Rock Cats.
HEADING BACK EAST: Yesterday's game marked the final contest of a 31-game stretch against Western Division teams. The B-Mets played eight straight series against teams from the other division, going 15-16.
STARTERS ON A ROLL: Since Zack Wheeler allowed one run over 7.1 innings against the Richmond Flying Squirrels on July 5, the B-Mets starting rotation has supplied eight quality starts. The rotation has compiled a 2.20 ERA over the last ten games.
CHANCE TO MAKE UP GROUND: Winners of four consecutive, the B-Mets welcome in the first place Trenton Thunder. Binghamton has not played an Eastern Division team since they hosted the Reading Phillies on June 14.
AGAINST THE THUNDER: The B-Mets have gone 4-2 against the Thunder this season, including a 2-1 mark at home. Binghamton has hit .297 as a team versus the Thunder and compiled a 3.79 staff ERA.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets continue their three-game set against the first-place Trenton Thunder tomorrow night at 6:35 PM. RHP Greg Peaveytakes the hill against RHP Dellin Betances.
