Marino, Zielinski Fuel Otters Game One Win

(EVANSVILLE, Indiana) - Infielder Steve Marino recorded four RBIs and pitcher Matt Zielinski (7-6) threw a complete game in the Otters 7-1 win over the Road Warriors on Saturday.

Marino collected three total hits in the win, falling just a triple shy of the cycle as Zielinski also took a no-hitter in to the sixth inning.

The victory was also the 100th win for manager Andy McCauley with the Evansville Otters.

Evansville took an immediate lead in the bottom of the first against left-hander Shawn Marquardt (2-4). Infielder Taylor Black led off with a single and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Black scored later in the inning on an RBI single from Luis Uribe and the Otters plated another run on a double down the third base line from Steve Marino.

Up 2-0, the Otters then scored three more runs in the the third inning. Catcher Brent Walters had the last scoring play of the inning, collecting his first RBI with the team.

Ahead by five, Marino drove a two-run home run to left field, giving Evansville a 7-0 edge.

Zielinski would finish the game allowing just one run on three hits.

The Otters even up the series with the win, improving to 42-46 as the Road Warriors fall to 8-21.

The second game of the doubleheader will start at 6:35 p.m. CDT. It is News4U Magazine night at Historic Bosse Field. It will be a seven inning game, featuring a $1 baseball bonanza. Tickets, beer, hot dogs, peanuts and popcorn can all be purchased for just $1.
