Schaumburg Boomers News Release
LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Schaumburg Boomers used a franchise record five homers including the first grand slam in franchise history to slug past the Rockford RiverHawks 15-1 on Saturday night.
Schaumburg wasted no time in nabbing the advantage as Nate Baumann, the second batter of the game, drilled a two-run homer to dead center. Jereme Milons would blast the first grand slam of the year later in the inning as the Boomers roared to a 6-0 edge. Any drama was taken out of the game with a five-run third. Brandon Gregorich blasted his first homer with the Boomers, a three-run shot in the frame. Chase Fontaine, also a newcomer, connected on his first with the team in the sixth, also a three-run blast. Steve McQuail hit the fifth of the night in the eighth, a solo shot for his 20th of the season.
Matt Kuna worked five innings to gather the win, his first since July 14. Kuna allowed just a single run in the fifth. Jose Rodriguez tossed three scoreless innings and Sam Robinson finished out the win. The Boomers tallied 12 hits in the game with three coming from Baumann. All but one member of the starting lineup recorded a hit with all but one member reaching base. Schaumburg (51-38) remains in a tie for the final playoff slot with seven games remaining in the season.
The series concludes on Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. LHP Cameron Roth (8-8, 3.38) takes the hill for the Boomers opposite RHP Cody Hallahan (5-8, 4.40).
