River City Rascals News Release

Joliet, Ill. - River City starter Justin Sarratt allowed just five balls to reach the outfield over his career-best seven inning start, struck out 10 with no walks, and the Rascals won consecutive road games for the first time since June 7-8 with their fourth double-digit hit night in the last five games that led to a 6-1 win over Joliet.

Sarratt (2-3) allowed a homerun to start the bottom of the second inning to Erik Lis but three fly-outs and a single were the only other balls to reach the outfield in his seven innings, and the Rascal offense was up to the task again, responding to tie the game at 1-1 with a Doug Sanders single in the third that scored Ben Hewett his first of two doubles on the night.

River City (43-46) took the lead in the fifth inning when Chris Andreas hit his fourth homerun to start the inning; Matt Serna and Hewett followed with a single and double respectively, before Eric Williams walked to load the bases for Sanders who took a pitch off the shoulder to stretch the lead to 3-1. Jason Patton followed with a sac-fly to center to stretch the lead to 4-1.

Sarratt retired 17-of-19 after the homerun allowed and Sanders chipped in with his third of four RBI's with a sacrifice fly in the seventh after Williams walked and stole second, ending up on third after a throwing error that helped the Rascal lead to 5-1.

Nick Kennedy and Preston Vancil (making a bullpen appearance after his scheduled start was moved to Tuesday) pitched around singles in the eighth and ninth to finish the game but not before River City added a run in the ninth when Hewett scored his third of the game on Sanders' fourth RBI.

River City looks for their first road-series sweep since May 25-27 at Washington tomorrow with first pitch set for 6:05.
