Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Albuquerque, NM - In front of a crowd of 14,591, the Mariachis' offense plated five runs in the fifth frame to break a tie game while the pitching staff held the Chihuahuas to just two tallies over the final eight frames to secure a 7-3 victory Saturday night at The Plaza.
Topes Scope: - Albuquerque has won three-straight contests for the second time this season and first since the team won a season-high four games from April 8-12 (two vs. Salt Lake and two at El Paso).
-The crowd of 14,591 is the second-largest Isotopes crowd of the season, the third-largest in Minor League Baseball in 2023 and the sixth-largest in RGCU Field history for a non-July 4th or Manny Ramirez rehab assignment contest.
-The Isotopes pitching staff surrendered just three runs on the night for the ninth time in 2023. It's the third-straight contest the club has allowed three runs or fewer, the second such streak this year (also: May 17-20).
-Albuquerque recorded 11 hits, snapping a five-game streak without tallying double-digits knocks (last: June 23 at Reno, 10). It's the second-longest streak without registering double-digit hits (April 20-27).
-The Isotopes pitching staff fanned 10 El Paso batters on the night after only compiling 10 strikeouts over the first three contests of the series.
-Albuquerque plated five runs in the fifth inning, the eighth time this season the club has scored five tallies in an inning and first since May 16 vs. Tacoma.
-Since 2018, the Mariachis are 19-7 at The Plaza. Over the 26 Mariachis games at The Plaza, 241,282, average of 9,280 per contest.
-Despite plating seven runs and tallying 11 hits, the Isotopes were held without an extra-base hit for fifth time this season and first since June 20 at Reno.
-EL Paso's starter Ryan Weathers relented nine hits over 4.2 frames, tied for the third-most by an opposing starter this season and first since June 4 when Salt Lake's John Swanda relented nine knocks.
-Criswell fanned nine Chihuahuas over 5.0 frames, the most by any Isotopes starter this year and most since Karl Kauffmann struck out 11 Sept. 9, 2022, vs. El Paso. Additionally, the one run allowed is tied for the second-fewest (five times) by an Isotopes starter this season and first since Ben Braymer on June 4 at Salt Lake.
-In his first start with the Isotopes in 2023, Wynton Bernard collected two hits, a stolen base and two RBI.
-Alan Trejo extended his hit streak to 12 games with a single in the fifth frame. He has hit safely in all 12 games with the Isotopes this year. His 12-game streak is the tied for the fourth-longest active streak in Triple-A and the second-longest in the Pacific Coast League.
-Jonathan Morales recorded three hits and four RBI on the night. It's his 14th multi-hit game of the year and fifth three-hit contest. He tallied four RBI for the second time this year (also: May 23 at Round Rock) and sixth time in his career, one shy of his career high.
On Deck: The Isotopes and Chihuahuas meet for game five Sunday at 6:05 pm followed by a Post-Game Fireworks Extravaganza, weather permitting. Albuquerque is expected to send Phillips Valdez to the hill while El Paso is expected to send Matt Waldron to the mound.
