Reno Aces News Release
Sacramento, CA - The Reno Aces (2-2, 46-33) surrendered a crippling walkoff double in a nail biting 5-4 loss to the Sacramento River Cats (2-2, 36-42) Saturday night at Sutter Health Park.
It was a top tier pitching battle between the Pacific Coast League rivals. Buddy Kennedy extended his on base streak to 36 games after he doubled home Jorge Barrosa in the third, scoring Reno's first run. Sacramento's Tyler Fitzgerald homered an inning later to tie the contest. Neither offense scored until the 10th, when Castillo delivered a go-ahead double. Kennedy and Josh Rojas followed with RBI groundouts, adding insurance.
Tyler Gilbert was phenomenal in his start, striking out nine and walking none. Gilbert allowed only three hits and one earned run, lowering his ERA to 1.59 over his last five appearances. The lefty has struck out a robust 58 batters since April 22nd, a span of 17 outings and 42 2/3 innings. Gilbert gave way to Nabil Crismatt, who struck out four over two scoreless innings in his Aces debut.
Joe Mantiply, Luis Frías, and Justin Martínez held serve with scoreless innings themselves, keeping the game alive into extras. The River Cats ultimately outlasted the Aces in the 10th, winning on a walkoff two-run double.
