Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
SUGAR LAND, TX - For a second consecutive night, the Oklahoma City Dodgers (53-24, 3-1) jumped out to a lead in the early innings that they didn't relinquish as they defeated the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (34-45, 1-3) 8-2 on Saturday night at Constellation Field.
For a fourth straight game, Drew Avans reached to begin the contest, working a walk from RHP Austin Hansen (L, 2-2) before Michael Busch hit a two-run homer to put the Dodgers up 2-0 two hitters into the game. Oklahoma City would score two more in the second on a bases-loaded walk and a sacrifice fly and tacked on another two in the third with a sacrifice fly and an RBI double.
RHP Landon Knack (W, 2-0) sat down the first seven batters that he faced against Sugar Land before César Salazar earned a walk, extending his on-base streak to seven games. With two outs in the innings, Quincy Hamilton singled to right, putting me on the edges, but Knack got a pop out to end the scoring threat.
The only other time the Space Cowboys were able to put a man in scoring position against Knack was when Hamilton doubled to begin the sixth inning, Hamilton's second hit of the night, extending his hitting streak to 11 games and his on-base streak to 18 games. Jon Singleton worked a two-out walk, but Knack got a strike out to end his night, throwing six scoreless innings.
In the bottom of the seventh, Joe Perez broke up the shutout with a two-run homer to right, his eighth of the year, pulling Sugar Land to within five at 7-2. Oklahoma City added on one more in the top of the ninth to give them their final margin of 8-2.
Sugar Land continues their six-game series against the Dodgers on Sunday night. RHP Jairo Solis (1-2, 8.13) is scheduled to start for the Space Cowboys while Oklahoma City is set to throw RHP Gavin Stone (2-4, 6.71) for a 7:05 pm first pitch. The game can be heard on ESPN 92.5 FM or online here and seen on MiLB.TV.
