Akron RubberDucks News Release
Right fielder Connor Marabell became the first RubberDuck to homer in three straight games this season and came within a triple of the cycle in a three-hit, three-RBI day that led Akron to a 9-5 victory for their fourth straight win and three-game series sweep over the Bowie Baysox at Prince George's Stadium on Thursday.
Turning Point
After the teams traded runs in the second inning, Marabell hit a two-out single to right field in the top of the third inning off Bowie right-hander Marcos Molina (3-5). First baseman Wilson Garcia lined a double to left-center field, scoring Marabell for a 2-1 RubberDucks lead. In the bottom of the third and fourth innings, Akron right-hander Jake Paulson (3-3) retired the Baysox in order, going three scoreless innings after having allowed a run on three hits and a walk in the first two innings. Akron built a 9-1 lead before Bowie scored again in the ninth inning.
Mound Presence
After allowing the tying run in the second inning, Paulson shut out the Baysox with a 2-1 lead, earning his first win since April 17 by pitching five innings, allowing an earned run on three hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Left-hander Matt Whitehouse continued the scoreless stretch through the eighth inning, before allowing a walk and two hits that began Bowie's four-run rally in the ninth inning. Left-hander David Speer inherited two runners and allowed a three-run home run to Bowie center fielder Ryan McKenna before getting the final out.
Duck Tales
The RubberDucks added two runs each in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings, plus one in the ninth to score seven times in the final four innings. Third baseman Jorma Rodriguez hit RBI singles in the second and sixth innings in a three-hit day. Garcia, shortstop Alexis Pantoja, and second baseman Tyler Friis each had two of Akron's 14 hits.
