Frisco RoughRiders News Release

The Frisco RoughRiders overcame an early nine run deficit en route to a 13-11 victory over the Midland Rockhounds in an early afternoon tilt Tuesday at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Salomon Manriquez completed the comeback with a three-run, walk off home run off Midland closer Steve Sharpe.

The 'Riders fell behind early as the Rockhounds jumped on Frisco starter Luis Mendoza for seven runs in 3 2/3 innings. Landon Powell hit his eighth home run of the season in the second inning and hit a two run triple in the fourth. Brant Colamarino also homered and had an RBI single in the Rockhounds' eight run fourth.

The Frisco offense began to chip away at the Midland lead as it quickly responded with five runs in the bottom half of the fourth. Manriquez hit a three-run home run to left field and John Mayberry hit an RBI double and came around to score when the next batter Adam Fox singled to make the score 9-5. Mayberry was 1-for-4 with an RBI in his RoughRiders debut. Brandon Boggs hit a solo home run in the fifth inning to pull the 'Riders with three at 9-6. Boggs' home run was his third in the last four games.

After Midland extended its lead to 10-6 with a run in the top half of the sixth, the 'Riders came back with three runs in the bottom of the frame to make the score 10-9. Jim Fasano led off the inning with his first triple of the season and later scored on an Adam Fox double. Fox came around to score on Casey Benjamin's home run to right centerfield.

The 'Riders completed their comeback tying the game at ten in the seventh inning when Jim Fasano doubled home Manriquez who scored from first on the play. The double was Fasano's third hit of the game.

The Rockhounds went back on top in the eighth inning when Myron Leslie delivered a two out RBI single to score Colamarino. Fasano prevented any further damage by snagging a hard hit line drive by Luke Appert to end the inning.

After completing a nine run comeback, the 'Riders had no problems over coming a one run deficit as Manriquez sent the Rockhounds home with a walk off, three-run bomb that gave the 'Riders a 13-11 win.

Jesse Ingram (2-1) earned the win in relief working a scoreless ninth inning while Steve Sharpe (3-1) surrendered the Manriquez home run and took the loss.

Eight of the nine Rockhounds in the starting lineup had at least two hits as catcher Landon Powell went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI and Colamarino was 3-for-5 with 2 RBI. The RoughRiders were led by Manriquez who totaled four hits in five at bats with two home runs and six RBI. Boggs, Fasano and Fox also had three hits a piece.

As a result of taking four of five games from the Rockhounds in the series Frisco has now built a 2 ½ game lead over Midland for first place in the Texas League South Division. The 'Riders also remain the best team in all of Double-A baseball with a 42-21 record.

The RoughRiders now begin a 12 game road trip before the All Star break starting in Corpus Christi Wednesday night. Edinson Volquez (4-0, 3.10) starts for Frisco while the Hooks counter with Jimmy Barthmaier (2-2, 5.35). First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
