MOOSE HIT AHL ALL-STAR BREAK

The Manitoba Moose finished their longest road trip of the season this past week with their three final games in California.

Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016: Manitoba 3 vs. Bakersfield 6

The Moose battled hard but couldn't shut down the Condors offensive explosion. Scott Kosmachuk had his first multi-goal game of the season, while Nic Petan and Thomas Raffl each had two assists. Rookie defenceman Jan Kostalek scored his first career AHL goal. (Full game recap)

Friday, Jan. 29, 2016: Manitoba 2 vs. Bakersfield 6

Manitoba responded with a better effort through the first two periods in the rematch, but the third period was a different story. The Moose ran out of gas in the third, as the Condors scored five unanswered goals to pull away with the victory. The Moose had goals from Thomas Raffl and Matt Fraser while Nic Petan extended his point streak to four games with an assist. (Full game recap)

Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016: Manitoba 0 vs. Ontario 4

The Moose completed their eight game road trip with their fourth and final match-up of the season against the Reign. The Pacific Division's top team in the standings shut down the Moose offence in a shutout win. Ontario's Michael Mersch had two goals and an assist. Manitoba will be happy not to see him again as he scored five goals and three assists for eight points in four games against the Moose this season. Eric Comrie was solid in net making 24 saves. (Full game recap)

Thursday, Feb. 4 & Saturday Feb. 6

The Moose will play their first post-AHL All-Star break games against the top team in the AHL standings in the Toronto Marlies during a two-game series. These will be the final meetings between these two teams in the regular season.

THOMAS RAFFL

Forward Thomas Raffl returned to the Moose lineup during the California trip after suffering a broken jaw in December. Raffl has had bad luck with injuries this year and has played in 16 of Manitoba's 43 games so far this season. The big Austrian winger showed signs that he is finding his game this week by recording three points (1G, 2A) in three games this week against Bakersfield & Ontario.

AHL ALL STAR - COMRIE:

Eric Comrie was added to the AHL All-Star Classic roster earlier this week as a replacement to Connor Hellebuyck. Comrie was well deserving of the honour as he has been incredible in net for the Moose this season. Heading into the All-Star break, Comrie leads all AHL goaltenders with 924 saves. Only three other AHL goaltenders have more than 800 saves so far this year.

AHL ALL-STAR SKILLS COMPETITION:

Eric Comrie stole the show in the AHL All-Star Skills Competition on Sunday night in Syracuse. Comrie won the CCM Top Goaltender award (photo above) at the event after stopping 17 of the 19 shots he faced during the competition. The native of Edmonton, Alberta stopped nine of 10 attempts in the AHL Live Rapid Fire event, all three shots in the U.S. Army Pass and Score, and five of six in the Panasonic Breakaway Relay. The 2016 Toyota AHL All-Star Challenge takes place Monday night at 6 p.m. CT and can be seen live on Sportsnet ONE.

DISH MASTER:

Nic Petan continued to add to his impressive rookie season with the Moose this season. Petan saw his four game point streak come to an end but did have a goal and four assists during that stretch. The Delta, BC native is second on the team in assists with 17 and third on the team in points with 20. He leads all Moose players with a 0.71 points-per-game average.

SCORING SCOTT KOSMACHUK:

Forward Scott Kosmachuk had his first two goal night of the season and second of his AHL career against the Bakersfield Condors this past Tuesday night. Kosmachuk is now second on the team in goals with nine and is on pace to set new career highs in goals, assists and points this season.

ROSTER MOVES:

The Moose saw the return of forward Patrice Cormier after a 10-day stint with the Winnipeg Jets. Cormier played in one game for the Jets during that span before returning to the Moose on Jan. 27. The Moose recalled defenceman Aaron Harstad from their ECHL affiliate, the Tulsa Oilers this week. Manitoba also made moves sending forwards Jimmy Lodge and Axel Blomqvist to Tulsa which will help them see some more game action as the Oilers have three home games this upcoming week. Lodge and Blomqvist both played for the Oilers this past Sunday against the Allen Americans.
