The Week That Was...
The Ontario Reign wrapped up a three-game road trip this week against the Stockton Heat and San Diego Gulls and hosted the Manitoba Moose in the final game before the AHL All-Star Classic for a week record of 2-0-1-0, improved the overall record to 26-10-3-1 and are currently riding a seven-game unbeaten streak (6-0-1-0). The Reign enter the All-Star break in the top position of the Pacific Division and the Western Conference.
The Reign visited the Heat Wednesday evening at Stockton Arena, falling 2-1 in overtime. Forward Valentin Zykov provided the long goal for the Reign.
On Friday, the Reign bounced back with a 2-0 victory at San Diego. Forward Michael Mersch scored the opening goal with 5.4 seconds left in the first period and defenseman Jeff Schultz added an insurance marker in the second period. Goaltender Peter Budaj picked up the shutout, his sixth of the season, making 21 saves.
Budaj carried his performance into Saturday's tilt against the Moose at Citizens Business Bank Arena, making 19 saves for his AHL-leading seventh shutout in a 4-0 victory. Mersch (two goals, one assist) and forward Sean Backman (one goal, two assists) each recorded three-point games. With the win, the Reign closed the regular-season series against the Moose with a 4-0-0-0 record.

Defenseman Kurtis MacDermid is fourth among rookies with 79 penalty minutes.
