St. John's IceCaps News Release


GREAT SCOTT: Forward John Scott was named Captain of the Pacific team in the NHL All-Star Classic. Scott scored twice during the 3-on-3 contest and was named MVP of the All-Star game. Scott has also been named the NHL 1st Star of the Week.

AHL ALL-STARS: Morgan Ellis and Michael McCarron are representing the IceCaps at the 2016 Toyota AHL All-Star Classic in Syracuse. The Skills competition took place Sunday evening and the Classic wraps up Monday night with a 3-on-3 game.

TRIBUTE TO THE TROOPS: The IceCaps return to Mile One Centre on Friday, to face the Utica Comets. St. John's will be donning their new jerseys which pay tribute to the Royal Newfoundland Regiment.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW

Rookie Nikita Scherbak scored the lone goal for the IceCaps in the third game of the Eimskip Port-to-Port Challenge. Zach Fucale was solid in net, stopping 34 of the 37 shots he faced. The Pirates now have won three of four games in the Eimskip Challenge, stealing the title.

Rocco Grimaldi sniped a pair of goals to pace the Pirates win over the IceCaps at the Cross Insurance Arena. Bud Holloway, after being sidelined for four games, tied the contest in the waning seconds of the second .The Pirates fired three straight goals in third to seal the win before IceCap Mark MacMillan scored with three seconds left in the contest. Portland won all four games of the Eimskip Challenge versus the IceCaps.

Chad Nehring notched a pair of goals as the Hartford Wolf Pack defeated the St. John's IceCaps at the XL Center. Charles Hudon (from Gabriel Dumont) scored the only goal for the IceCaps early in the third period to cut the Wolf Pack lead to two, but Nick Tarnasky potted a tally with seven minutes left to extend the lead to claim the win.
