August 1, 2009 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release

Jeff Mandel pitched seven strong innings to lead the Sens to a 4-2 win over Portland. The Sens snapped their mini two-game losing streak and evened their series with Portland.

Harrisburg took a 3-0 lead in the third inning with two runs coming on a two-run home run by Edgardo Baez and the third scoring on a single off the bat of Ofilio Castro.

The Sens had chances in the fourth and fifth innings to break the game open but failed to do so. In both innings they had runners at second and third with no outs.

Mandel held Portland hitless until one out in the fifth inning when Juan Apodaca hit a solo home run. They closed to within a run in the sixth inning when Jon Still drove in a run with a ground out.

The Sens tacked on a run in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Sean Rooney scoring Luke Montz.

Justin Jones pitched a scoreless eighth and left the ballgame after allowing a lead off double in the ninth. Clint Everts came on and struck out two and retired the final batter on a ground out to earn his third save on the season.

Joel Guzman, Freddie Bynum, Baez and Castro all had two hits for the Senators.

The final game of the three game series is Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm with RH Luis Atilano on the mound for the Sens against RH Blake Maxwell for Portland.
