Alderson wins Curve debut

ALTOONA, PA - Tim Alderson shined in his Altoona Curve debut as the Curve snapped a six game losing streak to the Trenton Thunder (AA-New York Yankees) winning 8-4 Saturday night in the middle game of a three game series at Blair County Ballpark.

Alderson (7-1) tossed 5.2 innings allowing one earned run on seven hits and struck out four to notch his seventh win of the season in the Eastern League. The 20-year old from Scottsdale, AZ was acquired by Altoona earlier this week in a trade with the Giants for 2B Freddy Sanchez.

Pirates No. 1 prospect Pedro Alvarez blasted his seventh Double-A home run and his 21st overall of the season going 1-for-1 and tying a Curve franchise record with four walks on the night.

Miles Durham also stayed hot connecting for his third Double-A homer and extended his current hitting streak to 10 games and has now his in 17 straight games when he has been in the starting lineup.

The Curve (43-65) and Thunder (52-54) conclude their three game series Sunday night at BCB. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 with radio coverage starting at 5:35 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Altoona Curve Radio Network. Curve right hander Yoslan Herrera (7-0, 3.33) will try to stay unbeaten in 2009 as he takes on Trenton right hander Ryan Pope (4-8, 5.40).

Sunday's game will feature a team autograph session following batting practice as well as a spectacular fireworks display following the series finale.
