GAMES

Friday, October 21, 7 p.m. - at Reading Royals - Santander Arena

Saturday, October 22, 7 p.m. - at Adirondack Thunder - Glens Falls Civic Center

WEEK IN REVIEW The Monarchs opened the 2016-17 season at SNHU Arena against the Adirondack Thunder, and came out of the weekend with a 0-1-0-1 record.

Friday night, the Monarchs fell 4-3 in a shootout on Opening Night. The Monarchs fell behind 2-0 heading into the second period before Daniel Ciampini scored the first goal of the season for the Monarchs. Justin Gutierrez went on to tie the game late in the middle frame with his first professional tally, but the Monarchs conceded a goal before the horn blew, and trailed, 3-2, heading into the third. Manchester tied the game with just 1:33 on the clock on Quentin Shore's first career goal. After a scoreless overtime period, the game went to a shootout that Adirondack took, 2-1. Ciampini netted the only Monarchs tally, and Colin Stevens took the loss between the pipes.

Saturday, the Monarchs found themselves in a 4-0 hole midway through the second period before Daniel Doremus scored his first goal of the season. Rookie defenseman, Damir Sharipzyanov, scored his first professional goal and the Ciampini added his second of the season to bring the Monarchs to within one, but a late empty-net-goal from Adirondack sealed the game. Jack Flinn made his professional debut in net and took the loss for the Monarchs.

WHERE WE STAND The Monarchs sit in a tie for fourth place with Wheeling after taking one point out of the weekend series with Adirondack. With their two wins, the Thunder hold the top spot in the North Division with four points, followed by the Royals and Brampton Beast who both have two points.

LEADING THE WAY The Monarchs are led by Ciampini in the scoring column, as the forward came out of the weekend with four points (2g, 2a). Ciampini sits in a tie for second in the ECHL in scoring after Opening Weekend. Matt Leitner leads the team with three assists and five penalty minutes after getting into a fight Saturday night.

READING BETWEEN THE LINES The Monarchs and Royals will tangle Friday night in Reading. The Royals enter the week with a 1-0-0-0 record after beating the Jackals on Saturday night, 6-2. In the game, six separate Royals found twine, with Kris Newbury earning the game-winning-goal. Last season, the Royals were one of two teams the Monarchs didn't have a winning record against, when the team went 4-6-0-0 in the season series.

THUNDER STRIKES The Thunder come off a weekend sweep in Manchester, and head to Glens Falls to open their home slate. Last season, the Monarchs took a 4-3-0-0 record out of the Glens Falls Civic Center during the regular season, despite being outscored 23-27 in those contests.

TICKETS The Monarchs return to SNHU Arena on Friday, Oct. 28 (7 p.m.), when the Cincinnati Cyclones make their first trip to Manchester in the history of their franchise on Heritage Night at the Jungle.
