The offense kept up the pressure Saturday and broke through posting a 7-4 win. Hats off for Bonis : Forward Kyle Bonis, who owns the Walleye single season goal scoring record with 36 scored in the 2014-15 season, was the offensive catalyst in Saturday's win by scoring three times. His first goal came in the first period to tie the game at one. Bonis followed that up with a shorthanded tally in the second period before netting the hat trick with the empty net goal. Point producers : Kyle Bonis led the way Saturday night with a four-point performance, but A.J. Jenks wasn't too far behind with a pair goals and an assist along with Evan Rankin who tallied three points (1G, 2A). Tyler Sikura also had a multi-point game netting a goal and an assist. A shot record achieved : The 44 shots Friday night set a new mark for the most Toledo shots on goal in a season-opening game since the Walleye starting play in the 2009-10 season. The previous best was 35 set on opening night October 15, 2011, against the Chicago Express. Six skaters each had four shots to lead the way Friday night: Simon Denis, Jared Nightingale, Alden Hirschfeld, AJ Jenks, Kyle Bonis and Evan Rankin. The week ahead : Toledo plays two more road contests before the home season opens up on Saturday night. Tuesday night the Walleye head down I-75 again but this time they will stop in Cincinnati for a date with the Cyclones. The Walleye play Cincinnati a total of five times this year. Saturday is the first home game of the 2016-17 season. Toledo is in Brampton Friday night before hosting the Beast at the Huntington Center the following night.
