WEEK IN REVIEW - Wichita kicked off its 25th Anniversary season on Saturday night against their longtime rival, Tulsa. It was the 277th all-time meeting between the two franchises. The Thunder jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead before the Oilers scored the next three. Wichita rallied twice to make it a one-goal deficit, but couldn't hold off Tulsa, losing 4-3.
LAND OF OZ - Landon Oslanski picked up where he left off last season, scoring his first goal of the year on Saturday night and his 11th in a Thunder uniform. His goal cut the Oilers lead to 3-2 near the midway point of the final period. The Camrose, Alberta native is two points shy of 100 for his career (31g, 67a).
KRUSH TIME - Alex Krushelnyski didn't waste any time getting the Thunder on the board, scoring on a breakaway less than three minutes into the game. The Los Angeles, CA native needs seven goals to reach 50 for his career.
RODE TRIP - With the net empty, Jack Rodewald scored with 1:30 on the clock to push the deficit back to one and give Wichita a chance to tie the game. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native recorded 18 goals during his rookie season in Orlando and is one goal shy of 20 for his career. Interestingly enough, Rodewald played his junior hockey for Head Coach Malcolm Cameron when they both were with the Western Hockey League's Regina Pats.
WELCOME BACK - Malcolm Cameron coached his first pro game since the 2010-11 season when he was behind the bench of the Elmira Jackals. Saturday's home opener was his 619th all-time game behind the bench and 5556th in the ECHL. He is 317-173-70 all-time after Saturday's loss.
HOME COOKIN' - The Thunder set a new franchise record on Saturday night, hosting their largest home-opening crowd ever as 12,231 fans poured in the building. Fun fact, the Thunder have only opened a season on the road six times over their 25-year history in Wichita.
THUNDERBOLTS... James Melindy had an eventful debut, scrapping in the second and adding an assist in the third...Wichita killed off all four Tulsa power plays including one two-man advantage...Jack Rodewald led all shooters with seven shots on net...Wichita had 17 shots in the third period....
