THE FUEL REVIEW: The opening weekend of season number three for the Indy Fuel in the ECHL was deemed a magnificent success as Head Coach Bernie John's aggregation nation swept a pair of weekend encounters at the expense of one of their principal archenemies, the Cincinnati Cyclones. On the past Friday night, Indy ignited its opening night crowd with a three-goal first period of the season uprising to dismiss the Cyclones, 3-1. Left Wing Alex Wideman was the scoring hero, delivering a pair of consecutive goals, snapping a 1-1 deadlock to catapult his club into the victory circle. Rookie center Anthony Beauregard gained the distinction of scoring the Fuel's first goal of the new season while Tyler Currier assisted twice and goaltender Jake Hildebrand was brilliant in making 33-saves, blanking the visitors after the 4:57 mark of the initial stanza and being acclaimed the game's #1 Star. Then in their first road test the following night on Cincinnati's opening night, the Fuel nipped the Cyclones, 2-1. For a second consecutive night, Wideman was the scoring hero with the GWG and Hildebrand, again, earned #1 Star with 23 saves.

FIRST PLACE TO START THE RACE: With their back-to-back successes the past weekend, the Fuel commence the second weekend of the young campaign sharing the top spot in the Western Conference Central Division with Fort Wayne and Kalamazoo as all three teams have assembled replica records of 2(2-0-0) for a total of 4-points.

ROAD DATES ON THE SLATE: The Fuel continue with three consecutive invasions into alien territory this upcoming weekend. Friday night, it's a trek to Tulsa for a bout with the Oilers. Then, it's on to Missouri for a clash with the reigning ECHL Brabham Cup Champions Mavericks. Radio broadcast for both contests is 7:45 pm with the Morellis Cleaners Pre-Game Show and Terry Ficorelli.

NOMINEES TO PLEASE: For the opening weekend of the season, the Fuel have nominated left wing Alex Wideman for ECHL Player of the Week and Jake Hildebrand for ECHL Goaltender of the Week. In the two games, Widemen delivered a "trifecta" of key strikes including the GWG in each contest while achieving a sterling +3 rating. Meanwhile, Hildebrand, the erstwhile Michigan State All-American, repelled 56 of 58-shots, grudgingly surrendering a menial 2-GA, registering a brilliant .966 SPCT., blanking Cincinnati for a span of 109:24, and being hailed the game's #1 Star for both games.

MAJOR MARQUEE MEN: The Fuel scoring kingpins for the weekend: 1- Alex Wideman 2(3-0-3); Tyler Currier 2(1-2-3); Kevin Lynch 2(0-2-2); Anthony Beauregard 2(1-0-1).

PREMIUM PLUS PLAYERS: It was a banner weekend for the undefeated Fuel in the plus/minus department. In fact, Center Kevin Lynch and right wing Tyler Currier each authored stellar ratings of +4 for the first 2-games of the season as they both rank runner-up in the ECHL in this all-important category. Alex Wideman +3, Jonathan Carlsson +3 and Drew Schiestel +3 also enjoyed outstanding primo plus performances.

SHORTHANDED BANDIT: The Fuel penalty-killing cast was paramount in the weekend sweep of Cincinnati. Indy extinguished all 7 of the Cyclones manpower advantages, recording an impeccable mark of 7-7, 100% and #1 in the league. Moreover, the Fuel engineered their first SHG of the embryonic campaign when Tyler Currier connected with the game's key, crucial FG in the Saturday night 2-1 triumph in the "Queen City." As far as the Fuel extra man band is concerned, it was 0-4 combined for the the first 6-periods of the season.

FUEL FACTS: The Fuel victory opening night on Friday night represented their second consecutive victory verdict when the curtain rises for a new season. Last year, they nipped Toledo in an OTSO, 3-2. Including his final 13-games behind the bench last season, Head Coach Bernie John's record has eclipsed the .500 plateau at 15(7-6-2). The Fuel outscored Cincinnati in the first period over the weekend, 4-1. Last season, the Fuel's best period was the opening stanza, outscoring the opposition, 63-56. Fuel are a perfect 2(2-0-0) when scoring the game's FG; last year, they were 40(25-12-3). Indy is 2(2-0-0) entering the third period with the lead; last season, they were 26(23-1-2). One year ago, the Fuel opened the season with a 6-game win streak at home; 6(6-0-0). They are 1(1-0-0) thus far this season. Indy is now a sparkling 13(9-4-0) in its last 13-episodes against the Cincinnatians.
