Colorado Mammoth News Release

NEW YORK - The Colorado Mammoth used its first pick of the 2006 National Lacrosse League entry draft at Madison Square Garden to select forward Gary Bining of Ohio State University. Bining, a 5-foot-8, 160-pound native of Delta, British Columbia, was the 13th overall selection and the Mammoth's only first-round pick.

Bining captained the Buckeyes to a 7-6 record last spring in his senior season. A two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, Bining helped the Buckeyes win consecutive conference championships in his first two years with the team. The left-handed forward has also played juniors in the Western Lacrosse Association for the Coquitlam (British Columbia) Adanacs and won the Jim Bishop Memorial Award for leadership, sportsmanship and outstanding play in 2003.

The Mammoth used its second-round pick (25th overall) on left-handed forward Jamie Shewchuk of the Burnaby (British Columbia) Lakers of the WLA's junior series. Shewchuk, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound native of Edmonton, Alberta, led the Lakers this season with 44 goals and 83 points in 21 games.

"We are thrilled to welcome both Gary and Jamie to the organization," Mammoth general manager Steve Govett said. "Both are talented lefties and together they form a left side that we can see playing for our team well into the future."

With its third-round selection (34th overall) the Mammoth picked forward Matt Poskay of the University of Virginia. Poskay, a 6-foot, 204-pound native of Clark, New Jersey, helped the Cavaliers in 2006 to an undefeated season and the NCAA championship. He scored 41 goals, second on the team only to Matt Ward, who won the Tewaaraton Trophy as the nation's top player.

"The Mammoth is a great team and great organization all around," Poskay said. "To learn from (Mammoth coach) Gary Gait and take it all in will be pretty fun."

The Mammoth spent its fourth-round pick (51st overall) on Curtis Morwick of the Victoria (British Columbia) Shamrocks of the WLA's junior series. Morwick, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound forward, led the Shamrocks this season with 48 assists and was second on the team in scoring with 65 points in 20 games.

Towson University's Casey Cittadino was the Mammoth's fifth-round (64th overall) selection. Cittadino, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound defender, tallied one goal and three assists for the Tigers this season. The Baldwin, N.Y., native played for this summer for the Denver Outlaws of Major League Lacrosse.

With the final pick of the draft the Mammoth used its sixth-round selection (77th overall) on forward Sean Morris of the University of Massachusetts. Morris, a 5-foot-9, 190-pound forward from Marshfield, Mass., led the Minutemen with 33 goals and 39 assists in 2006, his senior season.

The San Jose Stealth selected Ryan Benesch of Kitchener-Waterloo of the Ontario Lacrosse Association with the first pick in the draft.
