Malm Debuts with Late Game-Winner to Lift Hitmen

Calgary, AB - Newly acquired James Malm scored with 1:18 remaining to snap a 5-5 tie lifting the Calgary Hitmen past the Medicine Hat Tigers 7-5 on Friday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Malm, who joined the Hitmen in a Wednesday trade from the Vancouver Giants, also added an assist in his debut.

Mark Kastelic (2g, 1a) and Jake Kryski (1g, 2a) powered the Hitmen attack with three points each while Vladislav Yeryomenko, Tye Carriere, and Egor Zamula rounded out the scoring. For Carriere, it was his first career Western Hockey League goal. Riley Stotts added a pair of assists on a night that saw 10 different Hitmen collect at least a point.

The Hitmen never trailed building six one-goal leads before Kastelic sealed the victory with an empty net marker.

Medicine Hat received their scoring from five different players with Dylan MacPherson and Hayden Ostir leading the way with a goal and an assist.

Calgary outshot the Tigers 40-32 as goaltender Carl Stankowski made 27 saves in the win.

The Hitmen will now get ready for a quick turnaround returning to 'Dome ice tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 3 in a 1:30 matinee against the Red Deer Rebels. It's also the Diwali Celebration presented by RED FM. The afternoon will include South Asian Cuisine on the concourse, Bhangra Dancers and a Festival of Lights.
