PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The Prince George Cougars defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-1 Friday night at CN Centre in the first of back-to-back games between the two teams.
The T-Birds and Cougars meet for a second time on Saturday at 7pm at CN Centre. The next game at accesso ShoWare Center for the T-Birds is Friday, November 9, at 7:35pm against the Kelowna Rockets.
Prince George (6-7-1-2) jumped out to a 1-0 lead 41 seconds into the first period on an unassisted goal by Justin Maser.
The Cougars took a 2-0 lead at 9:17 of the first on a power-play goal by Joel Lakusta. Rhett Rhinehart and Matej Toman had the assists.
Vladislav Mikhalchuk scored at 16:16 of the first off assists from Jackson Leppard and Cole Moberg to make it a 3-0 Cougars lead.
Tyson Upper scored a power-play goal at 18:42 of the first as Prince George took a 4-0 lead. Moberg and Ryan Schoettler had the assists.
Seattle (7-5-2-0) avoided the shutout with 38 seconds left in the third period. Jaxan Kaluski put a shot on goal from the left circle that rebounded to Samuel Huo crashing the net. Huo chipped the puck past Prince George goalie Isaiah DiLauria for his second goal of the season. Tyrel Bauer had the second assist.
Prince George outshot Seattle 33-22 in the game.
Seattle goalie Cole Schwebius had 29 saves.
DiLauria had 21 saves.
