Workin' Overtime

By defeating Wichita in overtime last Friday, the Mallards improved to 4-0 in games settled in the extra period this season. Quad City is also now 7-1 in games decided in either overtime or the shootout.

Power Play

The Mallards yesterday matched a season high by scoring three power play goals. The Mallards have scored at least two power play goals in five of their last seven games. Quad City ranks third in the league in power play efficiency (23.1 percent) but leads the CHL in total man advantages (169) and total power play goals (39).

The Mallards, who were shorthanded just once in each of their two last two games, rank ninth in the league in penalty killing (81.0 percent).

The Mallards have outscored the opposition on special teams by a ratio of nearly two to one this season. The Mallards have scored 45 special teams goals (39 on the power play and six shorthanded) and allowed 23 (all on the power play).

Best Shot

The Mallards remain the league leaders in shots on goal (38 per game) after pumping at least 40 shots on net in each of their three games last weekend- including a 50-shot effort last Friday against Wichita- and in six of their last seven games. The Mallards have taken at least 40 shots a total of 15 times this season.

Fantastic Five

Five Mallards- Brandon Marino (46 points in 32 games), Eric Giosa (40 in 32), Jared Brown (35 in 32), Justin Chwedoruk (30 in 29) and John Snowden (28 in 24)- are averaging more than a point per game this season. No other club can boast more than three players averaging better than a point per contest.

Little Big Man

All-Star starter Marino (22-24-46) leads the CHL in goals and power play goals (9), is tied for second in shorthanded goals (3) and ranks third in points. Marino heads into Wednesday's All-Star Game riding an 11-game point scoring streak (10-8-18) and having produced points in 17 of his last 18 games (14-13-27). Marino's point scoring streak is the longest active run in the CHL and also the longest for a Mallard this season. By picking up two points yesterday- in his thirty-second game- Marino eclipsed his previous career high of 44 points in a season, a total he reached as a rookie in 73 games in 2009-10.

G-Man

Giosa (15-25-40) notched two assists yesterday to join Marino as the second Mallard to reach 40 points this season. Giosa is fresh off a seven-point (three goals and four assists) weekend that saw him record at least two points in three straight games. Giosa now ranks sixth in the league in points, is tied for sixth in power play goals (5), is tied for eighth in assists and is tied for tenth in goals.

Brown Out, Take 1

Among rookies, Jared Brown (11-24-35) is tied for the league lead in points, leads in assists and is tied for fourth in goals. Brown has registered points in ten of his last 11 games (4-11-15).

Snowden (13-15-28) is in the midst of a seven-game point scoring streak (4-6-10). He also ranks fourth in the league in power play goals (7).
