Mallards Hit the Road for a Five-Game Trip

Moline, IL – The Mallards hit the road this week for their last extended road trip of 2004-05. The Mallards are in Kansas City on Tuesday to play the Outlaws. The team begins a three-day tour of Michigan on Friday vs. Motor City. On Saturday, the Mallards are in Kalamazoo for the final time this year. The week wraps up with a game vs. Muskegon on Sunday. The road trip ends on Wednesday, March 9th vs. Rockford.

Last week, the Mallards went 2-1-0 with a 3-1 loss to Fort Wayne on Friday followed by home wins on Saturday over Motor City and Sunday over Kansas City.

· Saturday, March 12th vs. the Port Huron Beacons-All Faiths Night-7:00 p.m.

The Mallards welcome Church groups from throughout the Quad City area for All Faiths Night. Strongman Bud Jeffries will be on hand to perform feats of strength and share his inspirational message.

· Sunday, March 13th vs. the Kansas City Outlaws-Family Fun-Day Sunday-3:00 p.m.

Family Fun-Day Sunday is back. Fans are invited down to the ice for a pre-game skate from 1:15-2:00 p.m. The Mallards and The MARK are hosting a spaghetti dinner for fans from 1:30 p.m.-3 p.m. The cost for the dinner is just $5.

The Mallards play Motor City for the final time on Friday at "The Garage". The Mallards beat the Mechanics 6-4 at The MARK on Saturday.

· Saturday, March 5th vs. the Kalamazoo Wings in Kalamazoo, Michigan-6:30 p.m. central time

The Mallards make their final visit to Kalamazoo on Saturday. Quad City is 0-1-1 at Wings Stadium following a 3-2 shootout loss in Kalamazoo the last time the teams met on January 17th.

· Sunday, March 6th vs. the Muskegon Fury in Muskegon, Michigan-1:00 p.m. central time

The Mallards play in Muskegon for the last time this year on Sunday. Quad City suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 defeat in a shootout the last time the teams met.

Friday, February 25th-Mallards 1 at Fort Wayne 3

The Mallards lost 3-1 last night in Fort Wayne. A.J. MacLean opened the scoring with his eighth goal of the season 1:03 into the first period. MacLean's goal was the fourth in the last six games for the rookie Mallard. At 16:42 of the first period, Fort Wayne's Steve Rodberg scored on the power play to even the game at one. In the second, Andy Townsend scored the lone goal of the period to stake the Komets to a 2-1 lead. Fort Wayne added an insurance goal with 1:01 gone in the third as Sean Venedam tied his career high by scoring his 33rd goal of the year.

Saturday, February 26th-Motor City 4 at Mallards 6

Last night the Mallards stormed back from a 4-1 deficit to beat the Motor City Mechanics 6-4 at The MARK. The Mechanics scored on their first two shots on goal as Dan Price and Tim Laurila staked Motor City to a 2-0 lead. A.J. MacLean scored for the third game in a row at the 11:54 mark of the first to cut the Mechanics lead to one. In the second, Motor City's Joe Burton scored twice in the first five minutes of the period to give Motor City a 4-1 lead. After Burton's second goal, Robert Gherson replaced Jeff Reynaert in the Mallards net. Gherson would go on to stop all 15 shots he faced in the game. Just 16 seconds after Burton's second marker, Jason Deskins started the comeback with the first of his two goals on the night. Troy Smith tallied on a power play with 11:39 gone in the period to cut the lead to one goal. Mike Kompon scored the equalizer for the Mallards just 1:29 after Smith's goal. Kompon's marker extended his team leading goal total to 20. In the third, the teams skated scoreless for 15 minutes before Marty Standish broke the tie. Standish scored the game-winning goal with just 4:32 left in the third. Deskins added an insurance goal on a 5-on-3 power play with 2:11 left in the period.

Sunday, February 27th-Kansas City 1 at Quad City 3

The Mallards scored twice in the first period on their way to a 3-1 victory over Kansas City on Sunday at The MARK. Rookie Mike Kompon scored twice in the win. Kompon's pair extended his team-leading goal total to 22. Patrick Nadeau started the scoring with his seventh goal of the year 2:08 into the first period. Kompon and Andy Fermoyle earned assists on Nadeau's goal. Four minutes later, Kompon tallied for the first time on the evening on a Mallards power play. In the second, a 5-on-3 power play resulted in the Mallards third goal of the night. Kompon scored for the 22nd time this season with assists to Greg Barber and Terry Hollinger. Jason Ruff scored 62 seconds into the third period to ruin Robert Gherson's bid for a second consecutive shutout at The MARK. Gherson ended the night with 15 saves while earning his 12th win of the year.

Player of the Week-Mike Kompon is the Mallards nominee for UHL Player of the Week. Kompon recorded six points (three goals and three assists) in three games this week.

Goaltender of the Week-Robert Gherson is the Mallards nominee for UHL Goaltender of the Week. On the week, Gherson went 2-1-0 with a 1.56 goals against average and a .935 save percentage.
