Fort Wayne, IN â The Komets again registered 4 points for the 5th straight week and held the top spot in the UHL Western Conference improving to 38-18-4 for 80 points after 19 weeks and 60 games of the 2004-05 campaign. The Rockford IceHogs continue to ride the Komet's heels with 79 points followed by Missouri with 74.
The 4-game week began with the Komets dropping a 4-0 shutout to the visiting Flint Generals Wednesday evening at the Memorial Coliseum. Goaltender Kevin St. Pierre started the game and made 10 saves on 14 shots before Tyler Masters held the Generals scoreless on 6 shots in the final 25:10 of the match.
Friday the Komets captured their 20th home win of the season stopping the Quad City Mallards 3-1. Steve Rodberg (D), Andy Townsend (D) and Sean Venedam (LW) tallied for the Komets while Masters earned his 13th win of the season making 31 saves on 32 Mallard shots. Venedam's goal tied his personal career season-best of 33 goals. Colin Chaulk (C) registered 3 helpers for his 4th 3-assist game of the season.
Saturday the Komets were doubled-up by the visiting Kalamazoo Wings 4-2 in the 3rd game at Fort Wayne in 4 nights. 9,544 Fort Wayne faithful were on hand to witness Komet goals by Jonathan Goodwin (RW) and Tom Nelson (C). It was Kalamazoo's last trip to Fort Wayne for the season. One meeting remains in Kalamazoo for the Wing's "Green Ice Game" on St. Patrick's Day Thursday, March 17.
Sunday the Komets began a 5-game road tour with a 4-0 shutout at Flint in the last meeting of the season between the 2 teams (FW 3-3-0). Chris Grenville (RW) notched a pair of Komet goals while Chaulk and Nelson each contributed marks. Chaulk added 2 assists for his 11th 3-point outing of the season and extended his point-scoring streak to 3 games (1g, 6a). St. Pierre posted his 24th win of the season stopping all 37 General shots. It was St. Pierre's 3rd shutout of the season, 14th UHL and the 23rd of his career.
This week the Komets head east for 4 games starting at Richmond Tuesday night at 7:35. Wednesday the Komets visit the Trashers in Danbury at 7:30pm. Thursday the Komets skate at Elmira at 7:30pm and then head for Adirondack for a 7:05pm faceoff Saturday. The Komets next home game is Wednesday, March 9 when they face the Port Huron Beacons at 7:30pm.

Komet Ironmen.....4 players have skated all 60 Komet games to date. The Komet ironmen currently are Sean Venedam, P.C. Drouin, Danny Stewart and Rob Guinn.
Virag hits 200 points.....Dustin Virag (RW) posted his 200th UHL and Fort Wayne career point with an assist in the Komet's 4-0 win at Flint Sunday Feb. 27. Virag is appearing in his 4th Komet and UHL season and has appeared in 253 games with the Komets to date. Virag's only pro game without a Komet uniform came during the 2000-01 season when he skated a game for St. John of the AHL.
Looking for 100: Goaltender Kevin St. Pierre has posted 97 UHL career wins.

UHL Colonial Cup Playoff Watch.....the 2005 UHL Colonial Cup playoffs will consist of 8 teams. The top 2 teams in each conference shall be seeded 1-3 (based on points). Seeds 4-6 will be the 2nd-place conference teams (based on points). The 2 teams with the next highest point total clinch the remaining 2 spots (7 and 8).
Based on point-percentage, since all teams have not played an even amount of games at this point, the Komets would be seed number 3 and have home-ice advantage against Danbury (seed number 6) in a best-of-7 first round series.
