
Mallards Finish Unbeaten Week with Win Over Hogs

Moline, IL-The Mallards enjoyed one of their biggest weekends of the season last week with wins over United Hockey League heavyweights from Kalamazoo and Rockford. The team also recorded a regulation point in a shootout loss to Flint on Saturday night.
Following the 2-0-1 weekend, the Mallards continue to hold the eighth seed for the upcoming UHL post-season. The team is 33-26-8 for 74 points through 67 games. Quad City trails Fort Wayne by just two points for second in the Western Division and the sixth seed in the playoffs. Motor City, the seventh seed, continues to hold the first wild card position with 80 points through 68 games. Richmond is on the outside looking in with 70 points in 65 games.
This week, the Mallards close their season series with Missouri. The teams play a home-and-home series beginning on Friday night at The Family Arena. On Saturday, the series shifts to The MARK for the final game of 2005-06 between the Western Division rivals. Sunday afternoon, the defending Colonial Cup Champions, the Muskegon Fury, come to The MARK.

National Library Week Discount
The Mallards are offering $3 off tickets to games on April 2nd and 9th for all members of local libraries. The special discount is in honor of National Library Week which will be celebrated in early April. To be eligible for the discount, fans must present their library card when purchasing tickets.
Season Ticket Holder Buddy Nights
The final Mallards "Buddy Night" of 2005-06 is scheduled for April 14th vs. Richmond. On this special night, season ticket holders will receive a voucher for one free upper bowl ticket for every ticket they hold. These seats can be upgraded to lower bowl tickets for just $5.

The Mallards close their season series vs. Missouri with a home-and-home series. Quad City is 6-1-3 in the teams' ten previous meetings.
Sunday, April 2nd vs. the Muskegon Fury 1:00 p.m. at The MARK
The Mallards long-running rivalry with Muskegon closes for the 2005-06 regular season on Sunday afternoon. This game also offers a possible playoff preview. Entering this week, the Fury are first overall in the UHL while the Mallards hold the eighth, and final, playoff spot. If the season ends with the standings staying the same, it would set up a first-round match-up between the two teams for the third consecutive season. The teams have met at some point in the post-season for five straight years and eight times in the Mallards previous ten seasons.

The Maroon Mortgage Pre-Game Show is on the air 25 minutes prior to face-off on Fox Sports Radio AM 1230. During the intermissions, stay tuned for the Swiss Valley Farms Intermission Report. After the game, the All-State Insurance Christy Cox Post-Game Show will air.

Friday, March 24th - Kalamazoo 5 at Quad City 7
A high-scoring affair resulted in a 7-5 Mallards victory over the Kalamazoo Wings on Friday night at The MARK. J.J. Wrobel recorded the second Mallards hat trick of the season in his return from injured reserve to spark the Quad City offense. A high scoring opening frame ended with the game tied at two. The Wings struck first on a power-play goal by Greg Labenski. The Mallards answered just 43 seconds later as Jami Yoder was set up nicely in the slot by Frank Littlejohn. Yoder buried a wrist shot for his third goal of the season. At the 15:40 mark, Kalamazoo retook the lead on Jason Deitsch's 32nd marker of the year. Less than two minutes later, J.J. Wrobel knotted the score at two with his 13th goal of the season. The teams combined for six goals in an action-packed second period. Chad Woollard gave the Mallards their first lead of the game 7:21 into the frame with his 40th goal of the year. Woollard's power-play tally marked just the 12th time in the team's 11-year history that a player has scored 40 or more goals in a season. The Wings responded 1:42 later on a man-advantage marker by Daniel Carriere. In the middle stages of the period with the Mallards down a man, Wrobel fed Jesse Rycroft in front for his sixth goal of the year. Kalamazoo retaliated with a pair of goals to make it a 5-4 affair. Tyler Willis found Nick Bootland on the doorstep for his 34th goal of the season. Just 2:18 later, Lucas Drake beat Jason Tapp for his 28th marker of the year. Wrobel added his second of the game with a minute remaining in the period as the teams headed into the second intermission with the game tied at five. The Mallards scored two goals in the third period to earn the win. Wrobel completed his hat trick 4:34 into the final frame with help from Littlejohn and Yoder. Littlejohn capped the scoring with his second goal as a Mallard nine minutes later to seal the win for Quad City.
Saturday, March 25th-Quad City 3 at Flint 4-----Shootout
A last minute goal by Chad Woollard earned the Mallards a regulation point in a 4-3 shootout loss on Saturday night in Flint. The late-game tying goal was the second of the night and 42nd of the year for the Mallards sniper. Frank Littlejohn recorded the other regulation goal for the Mallards. The Mallards finished the first period with a 1-0 lead after Chad Woollard recorded a power-play marker with 6:25 elapsed in the period. The goal marked a new career high for the Durham, Ontario native as he netted his 41st tally of the year. The Generals came back to tie the game early in the second on an unassisted goal by Mike Kinnie. The Mallards reclaimed the lead on a goal by Frank Littlejohn at 5:56 of the middle frame. It was Littlejohn's 25th marker of the year and his third in seven games as a Mallard. The Generals evened the score again at 13:46 of the second on a point shot by J.P. Morin. The teams skated to the dressing rooms after two periods with the game tied at two. The Generals captured the lead for the first time at 9:18 of the third on a goal by Chad Cavanaugh. Flint held the lead for ten minutes before Chad Woollard scored his second of the game to tie the score with just 41 seconds left. The Generals won a seven-round shootout on a final frame tally by Leo Thomas.
Sunday, March 26th-Rockford 2 at Quad City 5
The Mallards handed the Rockford IceHogs a 5-2 loss on Sunday in the teams' last meeting at The MARK this year. Glenn Detulleo earned first star honors with a four-point night (two goals and two assists). Rockford opened the scoring on a tally by former Mallard Rob Voltera. The goal came on a power-play at 3:29 of the first period. The Mallards answered just 14 seconds later on Detulleo's first tally of the night. The goal was scored on a delayed penalty and tied the game at one. Rockford reclaimed the lead on a goal by Kris Koski. The Hogs forward scored in his Rockford debut after being added to the team's line-up earlier in the day. The Mallards closed the first period with back-to-back power-play goals by Detulleo and Nadeau. The pair of power-play goals gave the Mallards a 3-2 lead after one period. In the second, the Mallards lengthened their lead to 4-2 on a goal by Jesse Rycroft. The goal extended Rycroft's point streak to three games as the rookie had two goals with two assists in three games last weekend. In the third period, Tom Clayton scored into an empty net to seal the Mallards victory by a final margin of 5-2. Jason Tapp earned the win after stopping 38 shots on the night including 31 shots in the final two periods.
Player of the Week
Chad Woollard is the Mallards nominee for UHL Player of the Week. Woollard recorded a goal in Friday night's win over Kalamazoo. On Saturday in Flint, he recorded a pair of goals including a marker with 41 seconds left that force a shootout. Sunday afternoon, the Durham, Ontario native assisted on three Mallards goals.
Goalie of the Week
Jason Tapp is the Mallards nominee for UHL Goaltender of the Week. He recorded victories over two of the UHL's top teams last week. He made 39 saves on Friday vs. Kalamazoo and stopped 38 shots on Sunday vs. Rockford.
