Elmira Jackals News Release
Elmira, NY - The Elmira Jackals announced today that forward Konstantin Kalmikov was named Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday March 26th, 2006.
Konstantin Kalmikov is the first Jackals' skater to earn the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week award this season. The 27-year old put up a 7-point (3 goals, 4 assists), +5 performance this week. Friday night against Adirondack Kalmikov had 3 assists in Elmira's first home win since Valentine's Day. Saturday in Roanoke, the Kharkov, Ukraine native scored two goals in Elmira's 6-4 win. Sunday he added a goal and an assist to cap off another very successful week, where he tallied 18 shots on goal in three games. His 12 points in the past two weeks has put him over the 50-point mark for the year.
"Konstantin has given us everything we have asked and then some," said Jackals Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Perry Florio. "He has great skill, great speed, and is so talented he makes everyone around him better. His offensive output this weekend was a big factor in both of our wins."
Since being acquired from Motor City in December, Kalmikov has 44 points (22 goals, 22 assists) in 46 games for Elmira. Overall he has 56 points (27 goals, 29 assists) in 65 games played. Kalmikov is currently riding a 4-game point-scoring streak. He is the first Elmira skater to earn the UHL's weekly award. Goalies Nick Boucher and Ryan McIntosh both earned the Southern Sports Supply UHL Goalie of the Week award; Boucher on February 6th and McIntosh on January 9th.
The Jackals are back in action on Friday March 31st as they head to Connecticut to Frostbite for a 7:05 pm face off at the First Arena. Elmira then returns to the First Arena for two games against the Roanoke Valley Vipers, beginning on Saturday, April 1st at 7:05 pm.
