Elmira's Konstantin Kalmikov and Motor City's Rod Branch earn weekly honors

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Monday that Elmira Jackals center Konstantin Kalmikov has been named Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week and Motor City Mechanics goaltender Rod Branch has been named Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, March 26th, 2006.

Kalmikov completed the week with seven points (3g, 4a) and a plus-5 rating in three games played. On Friday, he dished out three assists in the 5-2 victory over Adirondack. He netted two goals in the 6-4 win vs. Roanoke Valley on Saturday. He then scored a goal and added an assist in the 6-5 loss to Roanoke Valley on Sunday. The 27-year-old native of Kharkov, Ukraine has 44 points (22g, 22a) in 46 games for Elmira since being acquired in a trade from Motor City in December. Kalmikov is currently riding a four-game point streak.

Other players nominated for the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week include: Adirondack Frostbite center David Moccia, Danbury center Jeff Daw, Fort Wayne left wing Jonathan Goodwin, Kalamazoo right wing Nick Bootland, Missouri defenseman Tim O'Connell, Motor City center Chris Gignac, Muskegon defenseman Trevor Johnson, Quad City forward Chad Woollard, Richmond defenseman Brian Goudie, Roanoke left wing Mike Wiggins, and Rockford right wing Bruce Watson.

Branch finished the week with a 4-0-0 record, a 1.25 goals against average (GAA), a .964 save percentage (SPCT), and one shutout. On Wednesday, he made 32 saves in the 2-1 victory vs. Fort Wayne. He stopped all 35 shots in the 5-0 win vs. Flint on Friday to earn his third shutout of the season. He made 27 saves in regulation and turned away three of four attempts in the shootout during Saturday's 2-1 shootout victory vs. Port Huron. Branch earned his fourth victory of the week when he made 39 saves in the 4-3 win vs. Muskegon on Sunday. The 30-year-old native of Fort St. John, British Columbia leads all UHL goaltenders in wins (36), minutes played (3677:05), and saves (1,759).
