Quad City Mallards News Release
Moline, IL-Quad City Mallards President and General Manager Howard Cornfield today announced that the team has acquired star Left Wing Jamie Thompson in a trade with the Elmira Jackals. Thompson has 48 points (19 goals and 29 assists) in 40 games this year with Elmira. In exchange, the Mallards have sent forward Alexandre Mathieu and defenseman Sergei Durdin to Elmira.
The 6-foot, 187-pound forward led the UHL in playoff scoring last year with 20 points (nine goals and 11 assists) in 14 games. During his nine year career, Thompson has appeared in 54 post-season games recording 72 points on 35 goals and 37 assists. In two seasons as a Jackal, Thompson recorded 39 goals and 58 assists for 97 points. Thompson has 208 career goals during his nine year career. He is seven points short of reaching the 400-point plateau.
Thompson spent parts of four seasons in the American League with the Worcester IceCats and Providence Bruins. In 171 AHL games, Thompson recorded 62 points (38 goals and 24 assists). The 30-year old forward also played two seasons in the now-defunct Western Professional Hockey League (WPHL). In 1997-98, Thompson was named the WPHL Most Valuable Player after scoring 71 goals with 51 assists for 122 points. Thompson was also the WPHL's Man of the Year in 1997-98.
Alexandre Mathieu joins the Jackals after appearing in 31 Mallards games. Mathieu recorded four goals and nine assists for 13 points during his time with the Mallards.
Sergei Durdin is playing his first season of North American hockey. The rookie defenseman has 21 points (six goals and 15 assists) in 59 games this season.
"Jamie is the impact, big-game player we have been looking to add all season long," said Cornfield. "Jamie plays hard every night and is one of the top players in the league. I regret the only way to get this deal done was to include Sergei and Alexandre in the package. Elmira is receiving two quality people and players."
The Mallards are at home three times this week. On Wednesday, the Mallards host the Muskegon Fury to close out the teams' 2004-05 season series. Friday night, the Missouri River Otters featuring NHLers Barrett Jackman, Jamal Mayers, Bryce Salvador and Ryan Johnson are in town. Game promotions include AirTran Airways Dancing for Destinations. On Sunday, the Mallards host the Adirondack Frostbite on Family Fun-Day Sunday. The game marks the return of the 4 for $40 ticket package available exclusive at The MARK box office. The package includes four upper sideline tickets, four hot dogs and hot sodas for $40. Individual tickets to all Mallards games are available at The MARK box office or via phone at (563) 326-1111.
