Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, MI.---The reigning Colonial Cup Champions of the United Hockey League, the Central Division and co-league leading Muskegon Fury, in conjunction with the UHL, have announced today that Fury left wing and defenseman JASON LAWMASTER has been named the SHER-WOOD / UHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK for the week of March 7th through March 13th.
In his sixth pro season and his second in the UHL with the Fury, LAWMASTER, 26, has emerged prominently and dominantly as one of the key, major spokes in head coach Todd Nelson's Fury team wheel in Muskegon's present 16-games' undefeated streak; 16(13-0-3) as well as the coronated kingpins 10-game winning skein on home ice and 6-games' unblemished skein abroad; 6(3-0-3) in foreign ice warfare.
This past week, facing another ambitious docket of three games in five days, Lawmaster's Fury club recorded its fifth consecutive unsullied week with a perfect 3(3-0-0) mark. The 6-1, 210lb native of Westland, MI was both versatile and vitriolic in spearheading his first-place team both on defense and left wing. In the three games' week, he engineered 6-points on 2-goals, 4-assists, registering 6-PIM, 11-SOG and a superlative +7 rating. His two goals were of major impact and magnitude for "Team Title," with one of those delivered from left wing and the second from his defense position.
Playing left wing last Tuesday in Flint, Lawmaster's electrifying, singularly-conceived coast-to-coast "human freight-train" rush snapped a 1-1 deadlock and vaulted the Fury into a lead they never relinquished in a 3-2 victory verdict. Then on Friday and Saturday nights, having been moved back to the blue line, "The Lawman" responded with 1-goal, 3-assists, 4-points in convincing conquests over Richmond, 5-2 as well as Elmira. In the 9-1 romp over the Jackals, he was (1-2-3) with the game's key FG that torched the 9-goal torrent, earning him the game's #3 Star and a brilliant +5 rating.
The Lawmaster report card has been one of smooth, sound and solid play, no matter where he plays, for a much considerable amount of time. As a matter of fact, the 2003-04 recipient of the Fury's Best Plus Player Award as well as the Best Body-checking Award has amassed scoring points in 12 of the Fury's last 13-games; collecting 16-points in that span on 5-goals, 11-assists. In his last 32-games, he has averaged over a point a game with 32(15-20-35).
For the season, Lawmaster ranks fifth in Fury team scoring with 64(17-27-44). Included in his total numbers thus far are 6-PPG, 3-GWG, 4-FG, 1-SHG, 219-PIM and +9 rating. Always an intimidating, tormenting force when called upon, the rugged, ruffian, rock-ribbed rearguard ranks fifth in the UHL in minor penalties with 57.
Lawmaster becomes the second Fury player to be honored as Sher-wood / UHL Player of the Week while it is the fifth time overall that a Fury player has been accorded league-wide laurels. Previously, Robin Bouchard earned Player of the Week honors the week of January 3rd â 9th with Sylvain Daigle achieving Goaltender of the Week acclaim February 7th â 13th.
Moreover, in the monthly honors category, Bouchard was saluted as Sher-wood / UHL Player of the Month for January and Daigle took center stage as Southern Sports Supply / Goaltender of the Month for February.
