Gherson Named UHL Goaltender of the Week

Moline, IL- The United Hockey League announced today that Mallards goaltender Robert Gherson has been named the Southern Sports Supply Goaltender of the Week. Gherson takes the honor for a second consecutive week after going 2-0-1 over the past week with a 1.33 goals against average and a .961 save percentage.

Gherson began his unbeaten week by making 35 saves in a 4-3 shootout loss in Rockford last Wednesday.

On Saturday vs. Port Huron, Gherson recorded his second professional shutout in a 7-0 Mallards win at home vs. the Port Huron Beacons. The Toronto native also earned an assist in the game for his first pro point.

Gherson extended his shutout streak to 141:36 after shutting down the Kansas City Outlaws until the 17:44 mark of the third period on Sunday. Gherson allowed the only Outlaws goal of the game with 2:16 left in the final frame. He earned the victory with 29 saves on the night in a 2-1 Mallards win.

On the season, Gherson is 17-9-6 with a 2.20 goals against average and a .928 save percentage. He leads the UHL in goals against average and is third in save percentage. Over his two week run as UHL Goaltender of the Week, Gherson is 5-0-1 with a 1.67 goals against average and a .949 save percentage.

The Mallards are at home three times this week. On Wednesday, the Mallards host the Muskegon Fury to close out the teams' 2004-05 season series. Friday night, the Missouri River Otters featuring NHLers Barrett Jackman, Jamal Mayers, Bryce Salvador and Ryan Johnson are in town. Game promotions include AirTran Airways Dancing for Destinations. On Sunday, the Mallards host the Adirondack Frostbite on Family Fun-Day Sunday. The game marks the return of the 4 for $40 ticket package available exclusive at The MARK box office. The package includes four upper sideline tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas for $40.
