Fort Wayne, IN — The Komets once again scored a 4-point week (for the 8th straight week) and enter week 22 of the 2004-05 UHL campaign holding first place in the Western Conference with a 42-21-4 record for 88 points. The Komets increased their lead over 2nd-place Rockford to 5 points with 13 games remaining in the regular season. Fort Wayne out-shot the opponents 148-65 for the week and continue to lead the UHL with 2,366 shots after 67 games for a per-game average of 35.3 shots.

The week started with a 3-1 win over the visiting Port Huron Beacons Wednesday night. Sean Venedam (LW) notched a pair of goals, his 34th and 35th of the season, to break his old career high of 33 goals in a season. Jonathan Goodwin (RW) added the game winner. Komet goalie Kevin St. Pierre registered his 100th career win making 32 saves while appearing in his 400th career game. The Komets are now 5-0-0 against Port Huron this season with 1 meeting remaining this Friday, March 18 in Fort Wayne.

Friday the Komets dropped a 4-3 decision to Kansas City on coliseum ice in Fort Wayne. The Komets out-shot the Outlaws 56-17 tying the Fort Wayne record for shots in a UHL game. Tom Nemeth (D), Chris Grenville (RW) and P.C. Drouin (LW) scored for the Komets while goaltender St. Pierre made 7 saves on 10 shots before giving way to Tyler Masters in relief at 2:08 of the 2nd period. Masters stopped 6 of 7 shots in his 26th appearance of the season. The Komets lead the Kansas City series 4-2-0 with 3 meetings remaining, all in Kansas City.

Sunday the Komets slammed the visiting Richmond RiverDogs 9-2, tying the UHL team high for the season. It was the 2nd 9-goal outing for the Komets this year with the previous 9-goal win also against the RiverDogs on Dec. 17 in Fort Wayne. The Komets take the season series 3-0-0. Scoring a pair each for the Komets were Blake Stewart (LW) and Dustin Virag (RW). Also hitting the twine were Tom Nelson (C), Colin Chaulk (C), Troy Neumeier (D), Drouin and Goodwin. St. Pierre registered his 28th win of the season stopping 23 of 25 RiverDog shots in his 99th Fort Wayne career game.

This week the Komets travel to Kalamazoo Thursday for the Wing's annual Green Ice Game on St. Patrick's Day at 7pm. Friday the Komets return to Fort Wayne to host the Port Huron Beacons at 8pm. Saturday the Komets tangle in a rematch with the visiting Kalamazoo Wings at 7:30pm.

St. Pierre is 2 wins away from his 4th (3rd straight) 30-win season......Sean Venedam (LW) broke his career high of 33 goals in a season with his 34th and 35th tallies of the year Wednesday, March 9 vs Port Huron.....Steve Rodberg (D) skated his 100th Fort Wayne career game Sunday, March 13 vs Richmond.....rookie Blake Stewart (LW) registered his first 2-goal, 3-point game Sunday, March 13 vs Richmond.....Komets tied the team record of 56 shots in a UHL regular season game Friday, March 11 vs Kansas City.

Komets draw nearly 23,000 for the week.....the Komets had over 7,000 fans at each of the 3 home games this past week for per-game average of 7,654 and 22,961 total.

UHL Colonial Cup Playoff Watch.....the 2005 UHL Colonial Cup playoffs will consist of 8 teams. The top 2 teams in each conference shall be seeded 1-3 (based on points). Seeds 4-6 will be the 2nd-place conference teams (based on points). The 2 teams with the next highest point total clinch the remaining 2 spots (7 and 8). Based on point-percentage, since all teams have not played an even amount of games at this point, the Komets would be seed number 3 and have home-ice advantage against Danbury (seed number 6) in a best-of-7 first round series.
