Putting the Puzzle Together

March 14, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings of the United Hockey League announce the completion of two separate trades.

The K-Wings acquire veteran forward Kevin Kerr from the Flint Generals. In return Kalamazoo will send rookie forward Tom Ditzer and a second round UHL North American Amateur Draft pick to the Generals.

Back on January 7th, Kerr made hockey history, as he became the all-time goal scoring leader in minor league professional hockey. With 670 goals under his belt, Kerr will definitely spark the K-Wings offense.

"We (K-Wings) wanted to solidify our team with a player that can break open a game with his scoring ability," said Vice President/General Manager Paul L. Pickard. "Besides being a sniper, Kerr adds an experience player that knows what it takes to win a championship."

In his career, Kerr has led the team's he has played for to five appearances in the Colonial Cup Finals, including the 1995-96 UHL Champions, the Flint Generals.

The former NHL draft pick for the Buffalo Sabres (3rd round, 56 pick overall), also captured the UHL's Most Valuable Player Award in the 1993-94 season, when he tallied 100 points in just 66 games.

In a separate trade, the K-Wings acquired power-forward Dan Price from the Motor City Mechanics for monetary compensation.

Price is a six-year professional that has a knack to score. The native of Sarnia, Ontario amassed 97 points (47 goals, 50 assists) during 2001-02 season and became the Central Hockey League Scoring Champion.

The power-forward was also Rookie of the Year in the Western Professional Hockey League during the 1999-00 season, as he tallied 92 points for the Austin Ice Bats.

Like Kerr, Price gives the K-Wings another player with a lot of playoff experience.

"The addition of Price gives us an additional sniper," said Pickard. "While we have had equal scoring from our lines this season, by acquiring players the caliber of Kerr and Price makes us a much better team heading into the playoffs.

Before turning pro, Price played his college hockey at Bowling Green University.

Both players could be in the K-Wings lineup as soon as this Thursday, March 17th at 7 p.m., as the K-Wings host their arch-rivals the Fort Wayne Komets during the 24th Annual "World Famous" St. Patrick's Day Green Ice Game presented by Fifth-Third Bank, WOTV, and WRKR.
