Make It Five Straight; Bullfrogs Blast Away Bombers, 4-1

June 27, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release

Green Bay, Wis.- More lights out pitching and a dose of ultra-aggressive base running allows the Bullfrogs to slide past Battle Creek, 4-1. The "WOCO 107.1FM Coaches' Player of the Game" was Jack Strunc (Washington State) who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

First blood was drawn by the Bullfrogs in the third inning as back-to-back hits by Jack Strunc and Ty Blankmeyer landed a first and third scenario. As Blankmeyer purposely got caught in a pickle at first base, Battle Creek's Dre Gleason (Austin Peay) held on to the ball too long as Jack Strunc stole home plate.

Battle Creek's only run came in the bottom of the third with a 1-out RBI base hit from Chris Helsel (Penn State). Helsel finished the day 1-for-3 with a walk.

Jack Strunc scored again in the fifth inning from some 2-out lighting off the bat of Ty Blankmeyer. He socked an RBI hit down the right-field line and Strunc motored home from second as Green Bay re-claimed an advantage, 2-1.

With Jordan Knutson (Missouri State) pitching to the sixth, the Bullfrogs got to the tired lefty in his last inning of work. Dan Rosenbaum (Louisville) extended his hitting streak to eight games with a single, and with two outs a Paul Jacobson (South Dakota State) groundball to third was mishandled by Hesel presenting the Bullfrogs with a scoring opportunity.

Matt De La Rosa (Lenoir-Rhyne) worked a 3-2 count and ripped a single up the middle to score Rosenbaum and give the Bullfrogs a lead. Green Bay answered with another after Jacobson was plated on a wild pitch. It was 4-1 Bullfrogs after six frames.

That was the final. Excellent bullpen work was flashed from new Bullfrog, Luke Lind (North Dakota State) and Connor Donovan (Lehigh), who went the final four innings without a run allowed.

Ryan Radue also had his best start of the season. He went 5IP/4H/8K-2BB. He picked up his third win of the season. His ERA is now 2.04ERA.

The goose eggs worked by the two Bullfrogs' relievers allowed others such as Luke VanLanen (Valparaiso) and Jeremy Graf (Flagler) to rest as Green Bay's bullpen continues to deepen into the middle point of the season.

Kenosha beat Mankato so the Bullfrogs are still one game shy of first place in the South Division. A tie between the Kingfish and Bullfrogs would lie in the latter's favor because Green Bay holds the series advantage, 2-0.

Losses on Saturday from La Crosse (to Wausau), Madison (to Wisconsin Rapids), and a postponed Lakeshore contest (with Kalamazoo) allow the Bullfrogs to stand in second place alone.

The Bullfrogs play again tomorrow against the Bombers with a first pitch of 5:05PM CST. Parker Hamilton (Florida Gulf Coast) takes the ball with a five-game win streak, and a playoff berth in the balance.

Single game tickets are on sale now. Visit www.greenbaybullfrogs.com to purchase tickets. The Bullfrogs' business hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
