Kingfish Bounce Back to Defeat MoonDogs

Kenosha, Wis. - After a disappointing 11-4 loss at Madison Friday night, the Kingfish bounced back to defeat the Mankato MoonDogs 5-1 at Simmons Field Saturday night and keep their place atop the Northwoods League South Division.

The Kingfish (21-12) were able to capitalize on a couple of Mankato errors in the field to grab the early lead. In the bottom of the third, Bobby Sheppard tripled with one out and then scored on a throwing error by MoonDogs second baseman David Metzgar to give the Kingfish a 1-0 lead. In the fourth, Eric Filia and Zach Ratcliff pulled a double steal and then both Filia and Ratcliff scored on errors by Mankato catcher Kevin Hall and left fielder Paul Panaccione.

Filia provided an insurance run with a solo home run blast over the right field wall in the sixth inning. The outfielder went 2-3 on the night with two runs and one RBI. Mitch Gasbarro also had a RBI for the Kingfish in the game.

On the mound, EJ Trapino started and picked up the win. He went five plus innings, limiting Mankato to one run on five hits with two strikeouts. Always reliable Ryan Orr came on in relief and shut down the Mankato offense. He retired 11 of the 12 batters he faced, striking out two. He earned the save and lowered his ERA to 0.77 on the year.

For the MoonDogs (16-16), Austin Warner lasted six innings, giving up four runs on six hits and fanning four. Warner took the loss and Jordan Scheftz pitched two innings of relief. At the plate, Metzgar and Mikel Mucha both had two hits for the MoonDogs.

The Kingfish play at home against the Moondogs at 5:05 p.m. tomorrow. The terrific public servants of Kenosha come together Sunday on Webster University First Responders Night. Firefighters and police officers from Kenosha will play a softball game at Simmons Field at 2:45pm. Gates are open to the public and will open early at 2:45pm. Lynch Chevrolet presents the Firefighter Elvis bobblehead giveaway and they will be distributed starting at 2:45pm.

Fans are invited to bring their dogs to help cheer on the Kingfish for IRIS Bark in the Park Night. Water bowls will be available throughout the stadium and dogs must be on a leash for the duration of the game. There is no better way to spend your Sunday evening than with man's best friend and Kingfish baseball.

It is also Kenosha Area Conventions and Visitors Bureau Visit Kenosha Day. Visit Kenosha will be raffling off a prize package valued at $1,200.
