Kalamazoo, MI- The Wings Stadium Complex, which is also home to "The Annex" and "The Cube", announce that the main event for the Midwest Professional Boxing Series debut at Wings Stadium set for Saturday, October 22nd has been set. In the main event, world-ranked lightweight Damien Fuller will face Oklahoma native, Jerry Cooper.
In addition to a full card of boxing headlined by Fuller-Cooper, there will a mix of top-rated contenders and local up-and-comers coupled with live music and entertainment. The band Hydraulic Groove, featuring Detroit's Big Benjamin Hall, will be playing live during all Be/Side Production events which will offer ticket holders hard-hitting blues/funk/soul. All the festivities on October 22nd will commence at 7 p.m.
"The Midwest Professional Boxing Series is blowing up, Big Time," said proud series founder Bill Snyder. "It will be the hottest ticket in the Midwest. We've got an exciting main event featuring one of the world's best lightweights taking on a determined veteran." Snyder says that by staging quality shows with lots of extras for the fans, he will be able to offer something spectacular to the largely untapped market of devoted boxing fans in the Midwest. While the undercard will be announced soon, Be/Side Productions has already announced that boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Sr. be part of the Midwest Professional Boxing Series event that is coming to Kalamazoo for the boxing extravaganza.
Floyd Mayweather Sr. will be at the weigh-in, pre-fight party, having t-shirt giveaways, and signing autographs at the fight.
Professional boxing, now a highly regulated and vastly attended, red carpet professional sporting event, has enjoyed a lot of positive popularity lately in the press, as well as Hollywood. The critically acclaimed and blockbuster success of both "Million Dollar Baby" and "Cinderella Man", along with the hugely successful, NBC reality show "The Contender" (that will resume on ESPN next season) has created a host of new and very enthusiastic boxing fans that cross gender lines and that venture deep into the mainstream.
Tickets for the October 22 debut of The Midwest Professional Boxing Series at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo are priced at $75 VIP, $50 Ringside, $37.50 Reserved and $23 General Admission, and are available through TicketMaster or by stopping by the Wings Stadium Ticket Office.
Stadium Management Company owns both Wings Stadium Complex and the Kalamazoo Wings hockey team. Wings Stadium Complex is comprised of three buildings; Wings Stadium seats more than 5,100 fans for K-Wings home games and more than 8,000 people for concerts and other stage events. The Annex seats 1,367 for ice events and 2,850 for non-ice events such as car, boat, and trade shows. The Cube is the newer of the three facilities, that plays host to both ice and non-ice events. All three buildings are available for rental and feature numerous catering and meeting opportunities.
