Rookie forward joins Mallards for 2005-06

Moline, IL-Quad City Mallards Head Coach and General Manager Brian Curran announced today that center Alex Thymaras has been signed for the 2005-06 season. The rookie pivot will begin his first full season in pro hockey this fall.

Thymaras made his pro debut last season with the Macon Trax of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL). In three SPHL appearances, Thymaras recorded a pair of assists for two points with two penalty minutes. He appeared in five Central Hockey League (CHL) games last season recording four penalty minutes for the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees.

The 6-foot, 207-pound center played 99 games over three junior seasons in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). Thymaras made his AJHL debut with a single appearance for the 2000-01 Calgary Canucks. In 2001-02, he racked up 39 points (eight goals and 31 assists) in 47 games with the Brooks Bandits. In his final junior season (2002-03), he scored 32 points (10 goals and 22 assists) with the Drayton Valley Thunder.

"Alex is a big, strong player," said Curran. "I expect him to develop into a good forward at the pro level."

The Mallards open the 2005-06 season on Friday, October 21st in Flint vs. the Generals. The 11th home opener in franchise history is slated for Saturday, October 22nd vs. the Motor City Mechanics.
