Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- Rockford IceHogs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Steve Martinson announced Wednesday that the United Hockey League team has signed defenseman Evgueni Nourislamov for the upcoming season. Martinson also announced that Nourislamov and rookie winger Chaz Johnson will begin the 2005-06 season with the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League.

Nourislamov comes to Rockford after splitting time last season between the ECHL and AHL. The 6-1 defenseman suited up for the San Diego Gulls and Idaho Steelheads in the ECHL and played in a pair of games with the Syracuse Crunch in the AHL. This year will mark Nourislamov's second stint with Martinson, as he played for the Hogs bench boss as a rookie in San Diego in 03-04.

The d-man was one of 13 players to get an early start in an AHL camp this fall. The Hogs had a total of six players in Milwaukee including Nourislamov and Johnson. Forwards Vince Malts, Preston Mizzi, Yannick Tifu and Chad Woollard also got a jump start on training camp with the Admirals. Nourislamov had a goal and an assist for the Admirals in his first exhibition contest.

"Nourislamov combines speed, with an exceptional ability to read plays and pass the puck," said Martinson. "Chaz Johnson is starting the season in Milwaukee because he is a cruise missile on skates. Johnson is a tremendous skater and hits as hard as anyone that I've seen, he hits with the best of them."

Johnson is one of eight rookies on the IceHogs preseason roster. The 6-1, 215lb forward skated for Drummondville of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League last season and netted 33 points and accumulated 157 penalty minutes in 62 games. The Montreal, Quebec native skated four seasons in the QMJHL before turning pro this fall.
