
Maidens and Smith to Play in Home Hardware Top Prospects Game

The Owen Sound Attack, in partnership with Home Hardware, the Canadian Hockey League and the National Hockey League is pleased to announce that forwards Gemel Smith and Jarrod Maidens have been selected to participate in the 2012 NHL/CHL Home Hardware Top prospects game at Prospera Place in Kelowna, BC.
Smith and Maidens are both 17 and in their sophomore seasons with the Attack. Smith, a Toronto native has averaged a point per game so far this season, notching 15 goals and 18 assists in 33 games played while collecting a +11 rating. Maidens, from Ridgeway has tallied 12 goals and 11 assists in 29 games this season. Both players captured a Gold Medal for Team Canada at the 2011 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Under 18 Tournament this past off season.
"The Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game is an event that all NHL scouts look forward to attending," said NHL Central Scouting Director Dan Marr. "The 40 players competing in this game were chosen by the 30 NHL clubs with the game being a unique opportunity to evaluate 40 of the top draft eligible prospects on a single stage in what has annually become an intense competition."
Last season Nugent-Hopkins became the tenth player to compete in this event since 1996 to be selected with the first overall pick in the NHL Entry Draft. 19 CHL players in total from the 2011 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game that were selected among the record 21 CHL players chosen in the first round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft along with Jonathan Huberdeau of the Saint John Sea Dogs who was selected third overall, and Ryan Strome of the Niagara IceDogs who was selected fifth overall.
