Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

Salisbury, Md.- Another day, and another dramatic walk-off win for Delmarva. The Shorebirds waited until the 11th inning on Tuesday, but on Wednesday, it was decided in regulation.

Joe Mahoney's RBI-single with one out in the ninth brought Tyler Henson across the plate and gave Mahoney his second game-winner in as many nights. Delmarva's dramatic 2-1 victory on a crisp evening at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium moves the Birds to 14-12 on the season, 2-0 against the Lexington Legends thus far in the four game series. A pitchers' duel for most of the night between Delmarva's Tony Butler and Lexington's Anthony Bello, the Shorebirds struck first in the third inning when left-fielder Kieron Pope blasted his first homer of the season over the left-field wall to give the home team a 1-0 lead. Butler would maintain the one-run edge throughout his six innings of work, as the Shorebirds hurler tossed six shutout frames, striking out nine Legends along the way.

Lexington used a solo homer of its own to tie the game in the top of the eighth. First basemen Eric Taylor also cracked his first dinger off the year off reliever Aaron Odom, and the proceedings were knotted at one.

But the Shorebirds avoided heading to extras for the second straight chilly night with a clutch last of the ninth. With one out, Henson doubled down the right field line. After an intentional walk to Anthony Martinez, Mahoney stepped in, ready for late-game heroics again. The talented slugger from Troy, NY delivered again, providing a happy ending for Delmarva fans on a brisk night at the ballpark. Delmarva pitching totaled 15 strikeouts on the night.
