SAVANNAH, Ga. - Michael Antonini shut down the Hickory Crawdads for 6.2 innings and the Sand Gnats used timely hitting to win 4-2 over the Hickory Crawdads.

Antonini (2-1) retired the first 17 hitters he faced and allowed just one hit and one run in 6.2 innings for his second win.

With the Gnats ahead 3-0, Jose Bierd relieved Antonini after he walked Miles Durham with two out in the seventh. Erik Huber promptly hit a two-run shot to left to pull the Crawdads with a run. Andrew Walker followed with a single and reached second on a wild pitch from Bierd. With the tying run in scoring position with two outs, Marcus Davis grounded out to end the inning.

Savannah began the scoring in the fourth when Joaquin Rodriguez doubled to left to score Michael Hernandez. Savannah added two in the fifth on a run-scoring triple off the bat of Greg Veloz that scored Daniel Stegall. Michael Parker hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Veloz to make it 3-0.

Francisco Pena added an insurance run in the eighth when he doubled home Hernandez to make it 4-2. With the base knock, he extended his hitting streak to a team-leading nine games. Hernandez led the Gnats with three hits and a pair of runs scored.

Jose Bierd threw 2.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits to earn his fourth save.

The Sand Gnats and Crawdads continue a four-game series at 7 p.m. on Thursday. It's Thirsty Thursday, with half-off beer prices courtesy of Connect Savannah and Rock 106.1.
