BILOXI, MS - The Milwaukee Brewers have announced the following roster moves that affect the Shuckers roster prior to tonight's 7:10 pm series and homestand finale against Mobile BayBears at MGM Park
Damien Magnifico, RHP, has been placed on the 7-day disabled list, retroactive to 7/16. (7/21)
Jeremy Horst, LHP, has been signed to a minor league contract and reports to Biloxi. (7/21)
Magnifico, 24, is 3-1 with a 1.42 ERA (6 ER/38.0 IP) this season in 29 games. The right-hander ranks third in the Southern League with 12 saves and among relievers ranks third in the league in opponents' batting average at .203. The Mesquite, Texas native hasn't allowed an earned run over his last seven outings and 8.2 innings pitched.
Magnifico was drafted by the Brewers in the fifth round in 2012 out of the University of Oklahama.
Horst, 29, has been signed to a minor league contract and had a 1.64 ERA and nine saves in 32 appearances for the Los Angeles Dodgers' Double-A affiliate, Tulsa Drillers, this season, leading the club in saves. The De Pere, Wisconsin native had a 3.33 ERA in 72 relief outings in the majors from 2011-13 with the Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Phillies.
In 2014, Horst spent the season with the Phillies Triple-A affiliate, Lehigh Valley IronPigs, where he went 4-2 with a 3.98 ERA in 45 games (three starts)...as a starter he posted a 1.80 ERA (2 ER/10.0 IP) and struck out 11 against three walks. Horst made his first Opening Day roster with Philadelphia in 2013, appearing in 28 games for the Phillies and had a season-best 6.1-inning scoreless streak from May 8-27. He averaged 12.27 SO/9.0 IP (10 SO, 7.1 IP) over his final seven appearances (May 27-June 15).
Horst had his contract selected on June 28, 2012 and made his Phillies debut that day against the Pirates (1.0 IP). In 28 games with Philadelphia he went 2-0 with a 1.15 ERA (4 ER/31.1 IP) and had 40 strikeouts. Horst earned his first Major League victory on August 12, 2012 against the St. Louis Cardinals with a walk-off victory in the 11th inning. Over his final 19 games of the season, he posted a 0.93 ERA (2 ER/19.1 IP) and limited opponents to a .167 batting average (11-for-66) for the Phillies.
Horst was traded to Philadelphia on January 25, 2012 from Cincinnati for INF Wilson Valdez after he split the 2011 season with Cincinnati and Triple-A Louisville. Horst made 36 relief appearances for Triple-A Louisville and posted a 2.81 ERA (16 ER/51.1 IP). He was promoted to Cincinnati for his first Major League stint, posting a 2.93 ERA (5 ER/15.1 IP) in 12 relief appearance
Horst's Major League debut was on May 28 against the Atlanta Braves (1.0 IP, SO) and collected his first Major League hit and RBI with a single off of Cristhian Martinez on May 28 at Atlanta. Horst had three separate major league stints (May 28-June 22, July 15-21, and Sept. 1).
The Shuckers roster stands at 25 players with one on the temporary inactive list, one disabled and one MLB rehab.
The Shuckers wrap up their homstand tonight in game two of the two-game series with the Mobile BayBears at MGM Park. Brewers' rehabbing right-hander Wily Peralta makes his second Shuckers start tonight in the finale.
