Mississippi Braves News Release
Jackson, TN - KD Kang notched a pair of extra base hits and drove in two to help the Mississippi Braves to a 4-2 win over the Jackson Generals on Tuesday night at the Ballpark at Jackson.
Kang's double and home run extended his hit streak to a team high 12 games, and the win ran the M-Braves' (16-9, 49-44) streak to six, matching a season high set from April 17-23.
Trailing 2-0 entering the fourth, Emerson Landoni doubled to lead off the inning against Generals (7-17, 36-56) starter Moises Hernandez (3-6). Kang drove him home with a double to grow the hit streak. Three batters later, Matt Kennelly tied the game 2-2 with an RBI single.
With men at the corners, Levi Hyams laid down a perfect safety squeeze bunt past the first base side of the mound, bringing Kevin Ahrens home for a 3-2 lead.
That was enough for the Braves staff, with Mark Lamm (2-1) hurling three scoreless relief frames on two hits to pick up the win. 2012 first round pick Lucas Sims allowed just two runs on two hits over four innings in his double-A debut, walking six and striking out three in the no-decision.
Mississippi added another run in the sixth when KD Kang homered to right, his third home run of the year. The long ball marked his sixth multi-hit game on the current 12-game hit streak.
Hernandez allowed four runs on five hits over 5 1/3 frames in the loss for the Generals.
Jackson started the scoring with a run in each of the first two frames. Ian Miller walked to lead off the first, moving to scoring position on a Tyler Smith single. Julio Morban flied out to left to drive in Miller for a 1-0 lead.
In the second, Tyler Marlette tripled to start the frame and Aderlin Rodriguez in his first Generals plate appearance hit a sacrifice fly to right to give Jackson a 2-0 lead.
Mitch Lambson (S, 2) nailed down his second save with a pair of scoreless innings to close out the win.
The M-Braves return home to Trustmark Park for a five-game series with the Mobile BayBears beginning Wednesday night at 7:05 PM CT. Right-hander Greg Ross (3-8, 4.99) toes the rubber for Mississippi against right-hander AJ Schugel (6-2, 2.24).
