Jackson Generals News Release
Jackson, Tenn. - Sacrifice flies pushed the Jackson Generals to a quick 2-0 lead before the Mississippi Braves surged in front for a 4-2 victory Tuesday at The Ballpark at Jackson. The Braves swept a brief two-game series and closed a season series against the Generals with a victorious 11-6 margin.
Julio Morban and Aderlin Rodriguez produced sacrifice flies that gave Jackson (7-17, 36-56) the early edge. With the bases loaded in the first inning, Morban lined out to left field and drove in Ian Miller for a 1-0 lead. Rodriguez, who made his Generals debut in the contest, came through with a second-inning sacrifice fly that plated Tyler Marlette after his leadoff triple.
Mississippi (16-9, 49-44) roared back in the fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead. Emerson Landoni led off with a double and scored on a double by KD Kang. After a walk and a sacrifice bunt, Matt Kennelly's RBI infield single brought in Kang and tied the game. On the next pitch, Levi Hyams converted a squeeze play with a bunt down the first base side to score Kevin Ahrens for the go-ahead run.
Lucas Sims, pitching in his Double-A debut, kept the Braves ahead with a scoreless fourth inning to close an up-and-down appearance. Sims walked six batters and tossed 83 pitches in just four frames of work, but he held Jackson to two hits and two runs.
The Braves added an insurance run with the long ball in the sixth inning. Kang blasted a leadoff homer in the top of the sixth to boost Mississippi's lead to 4-2. It was Kang's third home run of the season.
For the second straight evening, Jackson struggled on offense in late scoring chances. The Generals opened the home half of the sixth with back-to-back singles before a foul popout and a double play shut down the potential rally. Miller walked and stole second base early in a scoreless seventh inning, and Tyler Bortnick drew a walk of his own in the ninth but was stuck on base at the end of Jackson's loss.
Mark Lamm earned the win with three shutout innings of relief, improving to 2-1 with Mississippi. Mitch Lambson followed Lamm for his second save after two scoreless innings. Moises Hernandez was charged with his fifth straight losing decision and fell to 3-6. The contest was played in two hours and 42 minutes, but it started after a minor delay when an unidentified man parked off Interstate 40 was flying a drone over and around The Ballpark at Jackson.
Jackson continues a week-long homestand by inviting the Montgomery Biscuits to The Ballpark at Jackson for a five-game series. Wednesday's opener starts at 7:05 p.m. CT with Generals right-hander Dylan Unsworth (0-4, 6.45) pitching against Biscuits southpaw Chris Kirsch (0-1, 4.09). Fans unable to attend Wednesday's game can listen to the action on the TJ Network (AM 1390, FM 94.1 and 94.3) starting at 6:50 p.m. CT on the Jackson Generals Pregame Show protected by the Tennessee Army National Guard.
This five-game series features Christmas in July, sponsored by A+ Insurance, with postgame fireworks and an ugly Christmas sweater t-shirt giveaway for Saturday, July 25. Other upcoming promotions include another State Farm Agent Wes Harris Dollar Night Thursday and Denny's Free Cash Friday. The Generals are also hosting a baseball camp Thursday morning.
