Frederick Keys News Release

Another close game late turned into a lopsided Frederick win on Thursday night as the Keys stunned the Pfitzner Stadium faithful with an 11-run outburst in the game's final two innings to take the series finale 12-1.

Tied at 1-1 in the eighth inning, Keys CF Xavier Avery singled and stole second base. He would score with two outs when RF Ronnie Welty singled him home to give the Keys the one-run lead. Nobody could have guessed what came next.

Frederick battered the Nationals pen for five more runs including a three-run home run from 3B Billy Rowell.

Potomac would self-destruct in the ninth inning, walking six batters and hitting one as Frederick added five more runs.

Avery had a huge night for the Keys, becoming the first Frederick player to register a four-hit night. Avery went 4-for-5 with three runs scored in the win. Welty finished a dominant series with a two-RBI night. He drove home nine runs in the four-game series.

LHP Cole McCurry gave Frederick another solid start allowing one run in five innings. He gave way to RHP Jose Duran (2-0) who worked three scoreless innings for the win. Duran became the first Key to register his second win of the season. He gave way to RHP Jose Diaz who worked a scoreless ninth inning in his Carolina League debut.

The Keys return home for Going Green Night, Friday, April 23rd at 7 p.m. at Harry Grove Stadium. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Reusable Bag courtesy of the Frederick County Department of Solid Waste and Bryant.
