MYRTLE BEACH, SC (APRIL 22, 2010) - After a slow start, the hits kept coming for Winston-Salem. Another win wasn't far behind. The Dash rode seven shutout innings from starter Nevin Griffith and won its ninth-straight game with a 9-3 victory over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Thursday night at BB&T Coastal Field. The nine-game win streak is the longest current streak in all of professional baseball.

A scoreless game going into the bottom of the third, the Dash (11-3) got a key defensive play to prevent Myrtle Beach (4-10) from claiming the first run of the night. With Ryan Barba at third base and two down, a pitch skipped away from catcher Luis Sierra. Barba sprinted home, but Sierra flipped the ball back to Griffith who placed the tag just before Barba slid home to end the inning and keep the Pelicans off the scoreboard.

Myrtle starter J.J. Hoover held Winston-Salem in check until the fifth inning. With the game still scoreless, Drew Garcia singled with two outs. Justin Greene followed with a single to right and Garcia scored all the way from first when the ball was misplayed by right fielder Calvin Culver. The Dash took a gift run and a 1-0 lead thanks to the Culver error.

Joe McEwing's squad tripled its lead in the sixth, when Seth Loman blasted his second opposite field home run in as many nights with a two run shot to left, making it 3-0 Dash.

Hoover (0-1) tired in the seventh, but stayed in the game because the Pelicans bullpen had pitched seven innings the night before. The first two batters reached before Brandon Short drove one in with a sacrifice fly to put Winston up 4-0. Jon Gilmore hit an RBI double to put the Dash ahead 5-0. Later in the inning, a passed ball and a wild pitch scored two more runs before Sierra finished off the scoring with an RBI double.

The five-run seventh inning gave Winston-Salem an insurmountable 8-0 lead, as the Dash sent ten men to the plate during the frame.

Meanwhile, Griffith (3-0) was spectacular for the third-straight start. The 21-year-old right-hander pitched seven innings of three-hit, shutout baseball, striking out five and walking two. Winston's starters have pitched into the seventh inning in four of the last six games, with Griffith doing it twice.

The Dash added another to its tally in the eighth when Justin Greene hit his first home run of the season off converted infielder Van Pope to make it 9-0.

Myrtle Beach scored three runs in the final two innings off relievers Santos Rodriguez and Dan Remenowsky.

The Dash goes for its tenth win in a row when the team returns to Winston-Salem on Friday night for a three-game series with the Wilmington Blue Rocks. RHP Stephen Sauer (0-0, 4.09) goes for his first win of the season against RHP Jairo Cuevas (0-2, 8.68). First pitch at BB&T Ballpark is scheduled for 7 p.m. The webcast pre-game show begins at 6:45 on www.wsdash.com.

Friday night's game is sold out, but there is a limited number of tickets available for the games on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. Fans may purchase tickets by calling the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visiting www.wsdash.com.
