Potomac Nationals News Release
WOODBRIDGE, VA - The Potomac Nationals couldn't maintain the momentum gained from a quick, 10-8, win in the continuation of Wednesday's fog-suspended game against the Frederick Keys.
Thursday night's game at Pfitzner Stadium was a tight, low-scoring affair up until the top of the eighth inning, when the Potomac bullpen surrendered six runs. They allowed five more in the ninth for a 12-1 loss in the series finale.
Adrian Alaniz was charged with the loss after giving up five runs, four of them unearned, on four hits in 2 2/3 innings. It was Alaniz's own fielding error that led to the four unearned runs.
In the ninth, Potomac reliever Ricardo Pecina struggled to find the strike zone. Pecina issued four walks, five earned runs and just one hit in two-thirds of an inning.
Jose Duran earned the win, his second of the season, after shutting out the P-Nats in three innings of work.
Tim Pahuta provided the only highlight of the night for the Nationals with a towering home run over the right-field wall in the fourth inning.
Potomac will start a fresh series with the Lynchburg Hillcats. First pitch is set for 7:03 p.m.
